Mines is probably The Sims: Complete Collection or Might and Magic 6: The Mandate

of Heaven

I also remember playing plants vs zombies on my uncle's laptop as a kid that was fun

also does anyone remember zuma?? :D

EDIT: title is supposed to say favorite single player PC game

Shogun 2: Total War. where my takeda bros at.

or else, Counter-Strike, whichever version so long as the gameplay is mostly intact and doesn't change a lot, and ppl take it serious. If we include VR as "pc games" then my favorite is my imaginary Pavlov VR which has an actual compoetitive scene like CS, but unfortunately since it's so niche currentluy it's kind of liek a best front end without a back end.

I guess I have to limit this to just one, which seems next to impossible.

Half Life

Even though I’m not a huge fan of the scifi genre, the game just had the most bad A feel to it. It’s a game I could go back and play again, over and over.

Hi arbor mentions would be:
Diablo
Warcraft 2
Starcraft
Diablo 2
Mount and Blade Warband
Total war rome
Zelda windwaker

I’m still waiting for Rome 2 to go on sale. After 6 years, they are still charging $59.

But I agree. I can’t think of a single game that has shaped the gaming landscape for than half life.

Blender, gimp, mspaint and photoshop.

But I am not good at them. I've won zero games.

Perhaps if I were perfect, winning a quake 1-3 tournament before my plane crashed in the side of a mountain would be where its at. Waaay past my reactive and proactive quaking prime tho. I won like two public DMs.

I just realized I was being dumb, Rome 2 is the only one I have played I never played Rome 1! But I own it on Steam, so I'm downloading it. :) If it's comparably good to Shogun 2 I'll be super hyped. I kind of prefer the Roman setting, the geography practice, etc. Unfortunately and not to be a downer but Rome 2 isn't near as good, although I had a lot of fun playing the Seleucids and trying to keep their empire together.

Halflife was great. Huge single player, lots of expansions (Opposing Force, Blue Shift). The demos were huge too. The tutorials were fun. Loads of great multiplayer mods like Brainbread, Counterstrike, Fire Arms, Team Fortress, etc.

Everquest, of course. A huge fantasy world with so many players and didn’t feel too gamified. The UI gave an almost fighting fantasy adventure feel.

Probably one of those two, but I also loved hot seat Heroes III, but I think that was more due to who I was playing with.

theyyyyyyyy didn't start steam to patch CS :p

they started steam to make mahney. wasn't 1.6 still on WON anyway?

ps gosh that box art tickles my childhood. I still remember going into EBGames and seeing 10 box arts in that style all side by side. Including CounterStrike Linux Server edition. you know, before EBGames became Ye Olde Mario Plushie and Halo Shoppe. I bought the CS box because DLing the mod on dialup was too brutal. But still had to go to the university with dad to patch to 1.4 or 1.5 in the end lol. Still remember coming home with the box from California, I had a severe sunburn on my pale legs that was peeling off sheets of skin so thick you could have upholstered a dildo with them.

I do think TFC was kinda the best, even though CS is like 3D computer equivalent of Chess or Tetris or something to me. I can bhop in that game 1000 miles an hour including like backwards bhopping etc and it's easily the funnest movement in anything

Yeah, I remember talking to Asteria about this before, the atmosphere is totally different, I kinda forget because I was a d2 baby. She was pretty right about that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnMR6SOBa9k

vs

https://youtu.be/XheJnmLAwhk

It goes a lot further in art, etc.

always had the impression that people preferred diablo 2 out all the other ones

diablo 1 being good and diablo 3 being trash

for me d2 repeated the d1 formula excellently for my stage of life, and I spent the most time in d2, I only got little tastses of d1 as a baby and didn't get deep into it.

D2 had so much cool stuff and it nailed the genre prefectly, I played sorceress like 300 different ways

comparison (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4c7s1OLJBU)

*neat*

Yeah d2 was mechanically the pinnicle

d3 was like wowlite with garbage floor mechanics and phasing

d1 was, is special and the beggining, it cannot ever be replicated probably until we forget\

D2 is probably second on my list nexto Quake3

Thread made me think. I've only ever owned very few single player computer games--so few I could count them on my fingers with digits to spare--and I've bought absolutely no single-player games in the past twenty years. I don't really see video games as a by-myself sort of hobby. I even played DooM mostly multiplayer. I suppose it must be either X-Wing or Wing Commander; neither of those had a multiplayer mode.

My favorite video game of any kind, from any platform, is of course Air Warrior but it's been sadly defunct since 2001 and was a massively multiplayer flightsim anyhow, not single-player. I guess it was single-player insofar as my own household cared since the wife could not play it effectively. She tried, bless her heart, but she simply couldn't do it.

Most of the games I played before 2005 were free. I still haven't bought that very many. Regret my wow subscription sometimes, but it's there for whatever reason I have.

Diablo2, was probalby the single biggest purchase of my life before the EQ addiction set in. Some how blizzard got me to spend so much money on diablo stuff.

I even used a friends copy of starcraft, which i didn't use online at the time because the internet wasn't a thing.

No, I totally get it. PS1 era gaming had a certain something to it, same reason Tenchu 1 (https://www.project1999.com/forums/album.php?albumid=303&pictureid=1349)and original Tomb Raider do the same thing. EQ came at the tail end of this period of games.

That Ultima 9 looks really nice; I had no idea they had changed from the top-down view. I remember seeing the Nintendo Power article about some Ultima game coming to the NES, think it was the 3rd one. It looked so cool and I had super high expectations for it. It seemed to take forever to come out, but when it finally did I really didn't like the aspect of the monsters leveling up as you did.

Hmm. When i think favorite I'd like to think "Something I wouldn't mind playing any given day" and at this stage in my life it would be zero.

I think I'll change it to "non MMO games I played way too damn much though enjoyed most of my time spent."

Morrowind
Rome: Total War
Mount and Blade(mostly playing mods)
Dungeon Defender
Skyim (mostly playing mods)
Diablo 2
Warcraft 3(most of my time spent was technically multiplayer)
Baldur's Gate 2
Fallout 2
Fallout New Vegas
Gothic 2
Vampire bloodlines
ToEE (with the Co8 mod/overhaul)
Borderlands 2

I guess that whole idea of sequels never being as good doesn't compute with me. The vast majority of these games are of course sequels.

Eidt:
I think if I had to absolutely pick the one I spent the most time. Hmmm. might be a surprise but I'd have to go have to go with mount and blade (mods).

Been playing a lot of Baldur’s Gate. My favourite character I’m trying to play like Gotrek. Berserk dwarf with attitude, anger problems and unquenchable deathwish. Specialises in axes and single weapon style. Rarely takes on party members.

Started the game by heading to the south west, somehow managed to aolo a bunch of ofres and sirens for a huge chunk of xp then roflstomped through the main storyline. Just broke put of jail (again).

The Realmslayer audio book voiced by Brian Blessed really helps me to stay in character.

I'm generally pretty cynical of these attempts to revamp old classic games with a new paint job. That said, with the shadowrun games and deus ex I think they've actually been good enough to be successor to the great games they came after. So... hope? Sure. Not betting on it though.

goop dost.

which one is the best paradox? Hearts of L-Ron didn't do it for me. but I fancy myself a master organizer

They're all the very similar quality really, characterized by elaborate, complex mechanics. HoI III/IV's downfall is the bad AI and clunky combat, so if that's what you didn't like you might like other pdox. But if you didn't like the pacing, complexity, systems or historical aspects you may not like other titles.

Victoria II is a classic. Older and not as shiny as some of the newer titles but it's a political and economic simulator foremost. You start in 1838 (coronation of Queen Victoria) and guide a country though the end of absolutism, through the Springtime of Nations and industrial revolution, through WWI to the rise of socialism and fascism. You get to manage the level of woke your populace has and depending on how woke they are you get certain policies like laissez faire, state capitalism, planned economy, etc. So you can pit your dream fascist state against all the limp dicked democracies.

Plus you get to brutalize Africa and exploit its resources, but that can be said for all paradox titles.

CK2 is good if you're into incest and game of thrones type intrigues, EU4 is addictive, stellaris if you're into space.

Arcanum. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RKTT7Bn3yg)

The game is interesting for its take on a fantasy world at the start of an industrial revolution. Fantasy races are mixing in society, racism and intolerance. For example, if you play a magic heavy build they put you at the back of the train because it might cause the engine to explode. Some tech heavy builds are not welcome in high magic places. It was one of Troika Games (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troika_Games) but launched with a lot of bugs. The community has fixed most of it. Numerous character builds. Rated #4 CRPG by the Codex.

Troika - Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil and Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

While not at the top of the list of favorites, one standout yet to be mentioned is Nox, specifically the online multiplayer mode. It was a good option whenever the EQ servers were down.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nox_(video_game)

The development of the game started in 1995 as a personal project of Michael Booth,[5] the future technical director and lead gameplay designer of the game. An avid gamer, Booth began programming his own games on Apple II and Commodore VIC-20 computers while still at school, and started working on Nox "in a spare bedroom of [his] house" in college. To help produce the game, he co-founded Hyperion Technologies, a company that also worked on driving simulators. After Booth showed a demo of Nox to John Hight, an executive producer of Westwood Studios, at the 1997 Game Developers Conference, Westwood decided to acquire it and moved the development team to California.[9]

Booth originally envisioned the game as an "updated version of Atari's Gauntlet", focusing on real-time magical combat in the vein of Magic: The Gathering and Mortal Kombat.[3] Inspired by the "epic wizard battles" described in fantasy literature, Booth wanted to create a "multiplayer wizard battle game"[5] and decided to set it in a medieval fantasy setting.[3] It wasn't until Westwood started working on the game that it began to lean towards the RPG genre and two more classes (warrior and conjurer) and a single-player campaign were added.[5]

...

The multiplayer modes were inspired by the online first-person shooters, such as Quake and Unreal, both of which the development team played extensively.[3]

Westwood Studios (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westwood_Studios). It was in all the PC games magazines back in the day. Westwood was one of the studios consumed by EA.

Nox was often compared to Diablo II, which was released five months after it. IGN staff praised the game as a successful clone of Diablo and highly recommended Nox, citing the game's graphics and gameplay quality, but criticized some of its sound effects.
