View Full Version : Most difficult part / worst bottleneck of the Warrior epic quest?

The warrior epic quest is generally understood to be one of the more painful and difficult epic quests to complete in old EQ - certainly not the most difficult, but still a major pain in the ass compared to several other classes. But what specifically makes it so bad? Green dragon scales? The fearsome, almighty goblin wizards in Permafrost? Persuading Kargek Redblade to give you his wax sealed note?

What is the main bottleneck / main reason the Warrior epic is such a bear to complete?

Green Scales. You need a raid force to take down either if the two Dragons that drops them.
And if you plan on the purchase route, good luck. They are extremely rare on the market and will cost you a half a million of plat at the very least.
With the amount of Warrior mains and alts, your only option is to join a guild and have rhe rest of the quest completed

Figured as much. Gathering raid items like the maestro hand and Spiroc Wingblade sounds annoying enough, but those scales... man, those scales.

The entire epic seems to be a bottleneck on paper tbh

Maestro hand , small bottleneck because no one will ever feel like killing this mob. It takes like 2 groups and it's in plane of hate.

Green scales are locked behind having to join a raiding guild and also outbidding the squadron of warrior alts.
Everything else is basically doable in a day besides maybe the golem ball but that's a rot status 3k mq at worst

Spiroc Wingblade is one of the most farmable items in Sky. I don't expect that to be a bottleneck at all. As a matter of fact, I'd be surprised if any currently raid ready warriors were still looking for one at this point on Green.

Greenscales IMO is the item most warriors get held up at in the quest line.

For green server if the chardok queen doesn't drop the blade everytime like blue did back in the day. Welcome to the other bottle neck it took me about 24 queen kills to get the blade back in 2012 2013ish. In kunark gear the queen is a no joke mob, good fuckin luck

how contested would you say is Maestro?

In the first year of epics / kunark, insanely contested aka perma camped and tracked. Also in early days the hand doesn't drop everytime. Hard core mode boys

Hosh has dropped greenies recently but yes very rare, on blue right now a million plat will still get you crickets for the scale. On green Maestro is rotates I believe but still very much competitive on earthquakes? Your best bet for scales is to join Seal Team and have a high raid attendance. GL OP!! Alternatively some of those VP swords are amazing ratios and aggro for Kunark!

I don’t main a warrior but I’ve always understood the bottleneck to be the scale. With only two sources for it and one being easy but a rat race, once awarded the rest seem to fall into place...again, as just an observer of events. Chardok is a frequent target but I expect guilds add sky island 5 and maestro as targets quickly after that (if not already).

Random drop luck can really play tricks on our minds but I’ve just never seen a rush to the other aspects. If those become bottlenecks post-scale it’s just the game being evil.

Biggest bottleneck is apparently you can't skip most of the epic with Sword of Runes in p99 like I did on live.

Green scales and it's not even close

Either get a VP key and be in a competitive racing guild or poopsock Sev in a moderately competent guild

I don't even know if these ever get sold, it certainly seems like a pretty rare item since every guild taking down either of the 7 day dragon boss spawns have no end of warrior mains and alts that happily dish out some DKP for them. But if you *could* find a seller, expect to shell out 500,000 pp or something ridiculous

Everything else is free and rots constantly. Casual guilds will loot extra feargolem pieces that they will never be able to MQ and Spiroc wing blades will be on every lvl 46 warrior that bothers to ever enter Sky. Then spend a few hours in Chardok and everyone has that piece.

It's the green scales. Always has been

Wot?

The sword of runes combine was added much later after epics, in Velious.
The sword of tunes combine requires a red scabbard.
The red scabbard requires Green scales to make.

On p1999 when you receive the red scabbard, it is a different item # from the red scabbard you get after the first combine of swords and hilts. The first item # does not accept a sword of runes. Only the second red scabbard.

the scale

Warriors know what I'm talking about.

The only reason you get crickets for a million plat is because literally no guilds allow you to sell raid loot for plat for some reason. It would be way too obvious / suspicious

I just finished mine a few weeks ago.

To be fair I quit for several months, but including those months I went a full 2 years where green scales were the only drop I needed to do all the final turn ins.
