Veteran EQ player with a 7 year break in playing. What are the current gaps in classes for P99? I prefer my usual monk but if the server is flush with them I can roll what’s needed. Give me a heads up as I’d love to dive back into old school EQ this week and be needed near end game.

As kunark is on the horizon you might want to hold off on a monk and roll one up after then, maybe if you really want to be needed for endgame try a cleric for now, and if you hate it go with an ikky monk, strip the cleric, or keep it and have both for stuff and things!

be needed near end game.

Literally just have to show up on a regular basis with a semi-needed class and you're good. With people coming and going it's not like there are any long-term imbalances in class distributions.

The only gaps in classes are natural gaps because the classes just arent good. The exception is cleric because cleric is forced into the least fun role in the game the second you begin raiding.

Raiding on a cleric is a combination of "mind numbingly easy/boring" while also requiring just enough attention that you cant just be an afk auto attacker

I suggest playing whatever you want. All the classes are great and in the heat of battle can prove their meddle or whatever. Go with your heart it is the only right choice.

Then why didn't you retire your Cleric rather than your Warrior? And such a public humiliation! The Legion of Cabilis weeps.

Also OP, there are always massive class gaps for 'tracker', 'poopsocker' and '3 AM batphoner'. I recommend this excellent if slightly dated thread Better Powergamer's Guide to Project 1999 (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241807).
