Want to make a melee alt

I want to make a melee alt.

I prefer one that can at least solo single pulls during down time.

I have been leaning toward Ranger, Bard or Monk each has ups and downs.

1. Ranger has a bad reputation among min-maxers. I am concerned I would not be able to get a group.

2. Bard Looks like fun, but I am concerned this class would be more trouble than it is worth with all the options for playstyle.

3. Monk is appealing but with no healing other than mend seems like it might be a long haul soloing.

4. I have considered a tank like Shadowknight or Paladin, but I worry that the hybrid exp penalty would be overbearing.

Monk is the way to go. Mend pops more than you think, bind wound works great. Can easily single pull not to mention survivability is second to none (FD). Can not only still do decent DPS on the rare corpse run occasion, but can EASILY recover a corpse via FD and running. Plus sneak works well.

On Green? Monks cant solo for sh1t w/o really good gear and the things that make Monks good soloers arnt available on Green yet and will be HIGHLY sought after for a long time.

Honestly if you want to solo play a necromancer

SK snare / fear kiting would be a decent choice.

On green all are going to be rough. If you can wrap your head around the bard class (not really a melee) it’s going to be your fastest and cheapest path to solo or group xp. It’s going to have the same hybrid penalty as the ranger, pally, or sk (if not fatty) but your kills/hr will be far higher. Especially if swarming.

I'm surprised bards didn't win the race to 60 tbh. On blue it was the easiest class I ever leveled. 50 takes a day and 60 takes 2 more days completely naked and gearless outside of vendor insturments

I'd pick sk even though I enjoy the ranger class. All classes you mentioned have exp pens. Pick whatever you think looks the coolest. Soloing on all of those minus the bard is rough, sk would be the next easiest for soloing if you do not want to play the bard.

As a Ranger main on green I would say hold out until Velious. Rangers in Kunark is rough. I had no problem leveling in classic mostly due to the lack of tanks (pretty much tanked in every group then), but I've been standing around LFG a lot more in Kunark, with just a few pickup groups so far.

To make it worse there is no easy way to solo for us unless you can afford some of the new Kunark gear, which I cannot atm.

I've mostly given up on the Ranger until Velious and am leveling up alts right now.
