I'd like to see Rants and Flames moved from General Community to it's own section at the bottom of the forums. It's a bit unbecoming of the community to have that section so close to the top of the forums, visual speaking.

There are a lot of good people in this community. We just don't always see eye to eye but it's those differences that make this place diverse. Flaming and Ranting is not good for anything other than healthy venting in my opinion.

So I can certainly see why you'd want to not have your eyes tainted with things you find repelling because I do too.

Most of us are nerds and as a consequence there are some pretty smart elfs out there on the spectrum or not. So what do we do if we want to talk about anything outside of EQ? New PC setup suggestions, people who want advice on gaming related things but not specifically EQ? etc. Sometimes having a similar mindset as other EQ players helps informed posts versus asking the same question elsewhere.

Personally I don't find time to frequent 10 different sets of forums asking relevant questions in relevant places. Off topic here is a good "catch all" for anything that doesn't fit elsewhere.

If you want anything along the lines of politics, religion, whatever else banned here fully... petition away. Or perhaps easier, change the way you view the forums, don't go for new posts - click down the subforums you like in the order you want to view them. I do.

Yes. I've lived in enough places and learned different viewpoints for so many different things I can't imagine a mind or life that doesn't value others perspective regardless if you agree with it or not. Learning what others believe and why they believe what they do is a precious thing.

Yes. Same as above. Perspective is a great thing. Show me evidence that there's another way and I'll consider changing my mind. Sometimes it's a tough pill to swallow but I'd rather be wishy washy and respectful of others rather than 100% absolutely correct all the time. Understanding others and even changing views is how I learn and grow. If I was still the same 20/25/30 year old me all the life lessons and experiences I've had since then would have been a waste.

I left reddit (and various other forums) due to immovable objects/viewpoints/etc. Although this place isn't perfect I feel the posters are actually respectful and willing to engage in a debate for the most part. Even though people disagree and even give each other a good ribbing this forum is one of the more respectful sites I've ran across.

As far as the tough-guy persona, meh. Growing up in redneck land having a tough guy persona was crucial for survival. Where I currently live it's almost detrimental to have one (nerd/geek central here). It's taken 20+ years to put the tough guy out to pasture. The tough guy will make an appearance if duty requires but the tough acting guys here don't hold a candle to actual tough guys.

Sorry you feel the way you do. As others have said there's ways to not see this forum. If the off topic forum gets deleted many of us will go elsewhere. A good debate is educational and entertaining. Since February I've seen my IRL friends 3 times. This place is a good spot to sit back and listen/read.

There's a legitimate problem of public perception with this forum. The thing is, people have to visit this site to play P99, so it's not possible to just avoid the forum community altogether. Twice when I tried to get friends I played with on Live to try P99 they browsed the forums and said they'd pass on account of this being a safe space for bigots and conspiracy theorists. It reflects poorly on the community. Granted I've had other pals who didn't care, but they just play solo enchanters anyway take that for what you will.

I completely understand what it's like to be an extremely online edge lord seeking male attention and camraderie on MMO forums and I do not hate you for soothing your inadequacies, but frankly it's just a bad financial decision to allow this forum to fester this way for so many years. A lot of cool and normal adults who would otherwise donate to a project like this are less inclined to do so when they feel like they're enabling.... whatever this is.

Management here doesn't get strong armed by "promises" of financial riches. They've held the same stance for the past decade. I'm sure they appreciate the donations but it's not going to determine the decisions they make for this server.

I was a philosophy major for awhile. I can't speak for others but if I typed out a full explanation of my beliefs as it pertains to every topic I post in nobody would read anything. You are correct in that we talk in circles, oversimplify, blah blah blah. Society as a whole has become use to sound bites. Explain anything reasonably well and the audience gets lost. It would be great if everybody was a good enough writer to make their point quickly and completely but many of us have simply been trained out of doing that.

I don't really understand either of those last two posts, I like off topic though I find it quite interesting and do not want it to go away. We all have a common bond; this nerd game. Folks, nerds, countryelves. I was never mad because of people posting things I disagree with (lol). Of course there are a variety of opinions. The thing that makes me mad about Off Topic is the endless discussions that never seem to resolve. It seems to me the Left and the Right can't even agree on objective reality. I imagine that bothers some of you, too.

Anyway, don't worry, they'll never delete Off Topic. You guys keep doing your thing and have fun. I'll just see you guys in the EverQuest-related subforums. bye

I believe what we’re seeing now with the disconnect in society is directly related to social media and media manipulation. These two forces being applied with rocket fuel at the same time along with Covid is too much for our monkey brains to handle and we’re reverting to the lizard brain sections.
