Don't remember last time I saw 70+ people on red.

New players or old red99 vets returning?

Perhaps it can be seen as a good omen for a coming new pvp server.

Yeah, despite all the cringe fest on the forums and people questioning people's sanity for playing here, I've enjoyed myself a lot on red99, playing on and off since 2015. Sure, I could have wished for more players, but the flipside of it is that when I've accomplished something on red with the few numbers it gives a lot more satisfaction.

Tried blue/green a few times, but can't make it past level 15 as it feels there's no meaning to the grind if you can't use it to compete with others in the end.

All in all, weirdos included (which mostly seem to hang out in the forums funnily enough), I had a great time on red.

I never understood why people make fun of people who enjoy playing on red. People can have a number of reasons to enjoy playing red other than your own. For some it can be nostalgia, empty camps, nice people to hang out with in guild like Sanctuary. You don't need more than 10 people in a guild to enjoy yourself.

My point is, we all have differing viewpoints. Not everyone compares the current R99 experience with the haydays of 2015 or even way back on EQ live pvp.

This post isn't intended to discourage people from playing at all, I think red99 is really good to feel an itch for a certain group of people, primarily people seeking a quick nostalgia fix since Red99 has an easier endgame situation than Blue. Having said that, red tends to go through phases where the pop temporarily goes up a bit and people talk about how it's on the rise as if it's going to hit 500+ (or even 100+ pop) periodically and it never does as the newcomers quickly burn out after getting their fix of nostalgia or get burnt out on the toxicity and emptyness of the overall server.

tl;dr play and enjoy the box but don't look too much into periodic spikes in pop as overall trends

He's trying to show you how most of the remaining pop on red99 boxes toons, so yes there appears to be "70" players showing at server select but really its 40 players tops. As 30 of those are boxed toons. There are guides passed around between people on setting this up. It's as ezy as 1.2.3, a.b.c.

Those days when there's 30-40 pop on usually indicates maybe 20-30 real players...let that sink in....EverQuest with 2 expansions and you're playing it with 20 other people.

But if its your cup tea - enjoy.
