The Nitrates and the Assassin - no reward, no exp

Completed this quest as a 17 magician and received no exp and no rewards that I could see. If there was coin, it was minimal. It did show a faction hit/increase.

Head back to Surefall Glade, and turn in the Black Wood Chip to Gerael Woodone to complete the quest.

Gerael Woodone says 'So the Unkempt Druids are alive and well. We shall keep a watchful eye out as should you. Take this for your bravery and defense of the Jaggedpine.'
Your faction standing with Jaggedpine Treefolk got better. (+20)
Your faction standing with Protectors of Pine got better. (+5)
Your faction standing with QRG Protected Animals got better. (+3)
Your faction standing with Unkempt Druids got worse. (-5)
Your faction standing with Guards of Qeynos got better. (+3)
You gain experience!!
You receive 7 silver from Gerael Woodone.
You receive 2 gold from Gerael Woodone.

So should be giving EXP and coin. Looks like a random item reward as well:
Cracked Staff
Leather Cloak
Raw-Hide Leggings
Round Shield
Spell: Dance of the Fireflies
Spell: Flame Lick
Spell: Invoke Lightning
Spell: Lull Animal
Spell: Ward Summoned
Wooden Shield

A 2006 comment was all I see commenting on the EXP, not sure how accurate it is:
At level 46, this quest still gives me 1% yellow with every turn-in :)

Didn't happen to come across anything in newsgroups or everlore, but didn't search very hard.

Thank you for the additional research. The only experience I saw was when I killed the assassin which dropped black wood chip. No gains from turn-ins

Next part is turn into guard captain (same as gnoll fang )quest) you get From 3gold to 9 plat varies. Have done this quest at least 7 times.

Just did quest again and turned in note to Capetian Tillian 8 plate and some change. seems like a lot for 15 to 20 minutes of just running around.

Also get no Expierence on this portion of Quest( i thought i had in my alt previous runs but i was wrong)
