View Full Version : How Is P99 Doing?

Hey sports fans.

I used to knock around the blue server from 2010-2016-ish. At the time I exited, the community was at a peak of pique it seemed. The forum was awash with dramas that were years-old at a time and it seemed no two people could be calm with each other.

It was at that time that I told myself, "Good grief... EVERYone here has a mental illness or emotional problem... including ME... time to go!"

For some reason, I decided to look at the forums today and it seems like a different place. I am seeing a bit of the old whines and gripes, but it seems like folks can talk to each other instead of at each other. That's fantastic.

So. How is P99 doing?

I see the concept of green has come to be (Congrats team. Genuinely happy for you). And if I read the context right, there has been more than one green rule server? A teal that was merged with the current green?

Wow. That is success.

What is it like in game right now? On blue? Forums are generally louder and more ridiculous that the companion game, so it may be damned calm inside Norrath?

I have no idea what green is like. Maybe it's like P99 was in 2010 when I started. The community was really fun then. Everyone was still so excited to be reliving their favorite era of their favorite game.

After p99 I spent some time on Live EQ on Phineas to experience what had happened to that game since I left it in 2005.

After sating my appetite for Live on Phinny, I spent an expansion in WoW and boy was that a mistake. There was some fun sure, but ultimately, the current version of that game is less satisfying than masturbating... sure you get off... but you're alone... (How does that HAPPEN in a MASSively MULTIplayer game?)

I thought of hanging around Norrath some more. Maybe it's time Lagaidh was reborn (fresh DWF PAL).

The initial gist that I sense is that P99 is calmer and friendlier than it has been in half a decade. I don't wanna invest in 1-50 or more on a paladin with zero starting contacts if the server still offers adult children in the ratio that it used to do. That's what made me think those years ago, "Man everyone's mentally ill". Adults acting like absolute spoiled kids to strangers.

What are your opinions? Be honest as there's zilch to lose:

Are strangers getting along by and large?
Have the wars between poopsock guilds ended?
Does anybody need another paladin around? I know that class best.

What's it like these days?

Remember how blue was when you left? Thats pretty much how green is now. Blue has been a lot calmer and friendlier overall I think... Its really quiet leveling though with most ppl soloing. I don't play in the end game raid scene so this is just my perspective, but it seems like a 3 guild race with a handful of outside guilds that snag a target here and there. Soooo to answer your questions....

1)for the most part it seems. Green gets most the drama now.
2)unnamed guild (now ghost) just emerged onto the scene to battle with Riot and AG. 3 or 4 other guilds occasionally compete as well but seems to be those main 3
3) everyone loves a paladin now! Only soulfire clicker, no exp penalty and 2h dmg has been improved!

The EQ cup is always half full or half empty. I think Blue is fun as every whether you are a filthy casual (like me) or a hardcore raider.

Oh and yes, pallies are always appreciated but rarely seen. Maybe more in the future for raiding since they nerfed soulfires so only pallies get charged ones.

P99 is at an all time high with weekly unique logins. Meaning more people than ever are finding time to log onto P99 and play classic everquest. blue is still alive and kicking, green is highly populated, red is on life support.

I recently had two separate people tell me about how the community in game is far more positive and friendly. Minus some obvious misunderstandings. Most of the bitter vets have moved on and there is a ton of new fresh blood on the server(s).

Poopsocking is part of what keeps the population high on P99, love it or hate it.

I just started back up on Blue again last weekend and I've experienced nothing but kind and friendly players in that short period of time. I never made it far enough to get into the raid scene (and had no desire to) when the server first opened up but I have the same recollection of elitist mentality that permeated the forums and the game itself but I don't get that anymore. I'm hoping I don't find otherwise the longer I play.

Since I posted, I fired up some Green toons. I got my customary pally to 15 and a HFL DRU to 20.

The attitude of players is fantastic, warm and welcoming. Until you get out into the "teens" zones. It's still good, but you begin running into more players who'd rather do anything but stop and type out sentences.

Something that really strikes me now, more than any time I ever played EverQuest, is that the world is just too cramped, even with a small population. 800 people on? What you want is camped. Even if it's just Dorn in NRO. Camped. Already.

It's like the majority of this game is trying to find something that gives xp in an outdoor zone, because... everything else already has a structured camp around it.

This is the way it's always been... I don't know why I'm noticing it so hard this time. I guess I used to be way more comfortable with completely and utterly wasting my time. If I travel to a camp and it's taken, poof there went my investment of time. In the past, I'd say eff it and go swimming, or goof around in the world. Seems this time, if I can't make some progress, no matter how small... I get frustrated quickly.

I feel like Danny Glover. I'm gettin' too ol'fuh dis'shit.

At least this time, I get to burn out on what the game actually is rather than the people playing it. That is an astounding improvement.

Maybe I'll see some of you in the Green world. Cheers.
