I'm a new player. I played EQ back in the day. I enjoyed playing monk and bard, so I think I'm going to try those out here.

I remember monk being difficult to solo with. Is it easy to find groups for a newbie on an established server like this?

welcome. on green, it's easy to find groups at all lvls. i think gfay is the easiest place to find low lvl groups. starting at lvl 3 or 4 you can go to orc hill.
