I'm surprised nobody has posted about this yet?

Dear valued SOE Customers,

We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).

This proves my point that SOE is a bunch of crazy Islamic Radicals.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/meast/04/30/iran.hackers/index.html?iref=allsearch

Coincidence? I think not. At the very least, SOE is outsourcing to Iran.

I wonder if this is linked to the Playstation network being compromised.

I'm pretty certain it is.

And no this doesn't affect Project 1999.

So on their Facebook fanpage they posted an update about the outage. I went on to comment at the end of the thread with

"Classic Everquest Http://www.project1999.org"

No more than 3 minutes later did they delete my comment and block me from their page. ASSHOLES.

Keep an eye on your credit card charges!!

Little difference between someone else ripping me off and SOE themselves ripping me off.

I remember trying to cancel an account around 2002 -- must have cancelled it, over the phone, about 4 times (4 MONTHS) before I realized SOE was just gonna keep charging me.

Called my credit card company finally and had them put a lock on the funds. SOE can lick my nuts.

"Sony says it will update users with more information later on Monday."

LOL. Doubt that.

Based on my experiences....SOE will most likely sweep this under rug as long as they can, and by the time some REAL information leaks out they'll just deny it.

it could have a possitive effect, more players coming here, not that we have a lack of them. yesterday I saw ~900 people on instead of the ussual 700. I also play EQ2 so I've been spending some time with all you good guys here :P

I got the email today, I am not hugely concerned as they did not get my CC info, but I was wondering, what is the worst they can do with the info they have? ( name, DoB, email , and an old address ) its not like they got peoples SSN numbers or anything, seems to be like this would only open people up to more fishing scams, but I may be totally wrong about that.

another post I read suggested that folks sign up for one of the 3 big credit companies free fraud alerts.

i know someone who, because of this sony hack, had their facebook hacked. they did'nt really do anything extreme to it other than making him a 58 year old bisexual female

Rodriguez added that Sony Online Entertainment’s network would be shut down until Friday and possibly longer. The company has contacted the FBI to investigate the attack.

I don't like SOE for too many reasons to list here (SWG: NGE), but I don't wish them any harm. I pray they can find justice. Hacking personal information like was done is a crime, not a game.

A LOT

HERE (http://www.bbbonline.org/idtheft/protect.asp) is a link to an article on the Better Business Bureau's website about identity theft. I suggest that anyone affected by this read the article.

I won't include detailed information on how someone could use that information to steal your pertinent info...don't want to aid any "Young Identity Thief"...

But some things to consider include:

Many people use passwords surrounding Dates of Birth. Them or a loved one.

Some con-artists are very creative at getting information out of people - even if those people work for utility companies or leasing offices.

etc. I'm sure you get the point.

...another post I read suggested that folks sign up for one of the 3 big credit companies free fraud alerts.

Yes. Do this. There is a website somewhere that allows you to get a full free credit report 1x annually from all 3 credit bureaus.

if they knew a thing or two about computer security that wouldn't have happened. you never use the same password for email, facebook/ other accounts linked to your e-mail, that's just ASKING for trouble.
