I started playing EQ with Ruins of Kunark and it has always stood out as my favorite game of all time. I've just never encountered anything like it.

I quit during college (too addicting, gpa dropped, etc.) and haven't played since. I was feeling nostalgic and watched a YouTube video that mentioned this server, and knew I just had to jump back in! (But with way more time restrictions than I used to give myself!)

I'm super pumped to try it out! I'll likely roll up a Shaman since that was a class I never tried back in the day. Any pointers from veterans?

Well, after looking at a lot of posts, I ended up making a halfling druid as my first character since 2004 or so. So far lv. 4 and moving up!

Follow the starting guide (http://wiki.project1999.com/Getting_Started) and setup (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2651), the p99 wiki (https://wiki.project1999.com/) is also a popular resource, this forum practices pwnin (https://www.project1999.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3095933&postcount=29) in other sections so keep that in mind, have a good time.

This sure has brought back some fond memories. I made the run to Freeport last night and stopped by the EC Tunnel. It's awesome to see it busy as ever!

I'd forgotten how easy it was to die in the early game. I hit level 6 and tried my hand at the goblins in Misty Thicket. They conned blue so I figured "hey, if I can get them one at a time, I should be good." Nope. Whiff Whiff Whiff, and then I was desperately trying to root and run, aaaaaand welcome back to level 5.

And it still holds true that it makes your whole day when a passing player to throws out a buff or SoW. Heck someone gave me a small round shield and it helped out a ton. Honestly, this is the main reason I was considering shaman or druid coming back. I like the idea of just plopping myself down in a newbie zone and buffing the heck outta folks.

This game is great.

Welcome back bud! If you're feeling stuck on where to go, head to East Commonlands and try to join a group or get some buffs at the tunnel to solo. They just changed the exp in several zones near you, so Runnyeye and the Gorge are now really nice spots to get you to level 20. Have fun!

Welcome back! I"m relatively new as well (last September), I started a necro as that was my main back in live but a couple months back I made a halfing druid on a whim and never looked back. I orignally made him just to check out Rivervale but some higher level guy dropped a http://wiki.project1999.com/Bear-hide_Jerkin on me and buffed me at level 1 (thanks Thasmon!) and I'm still wearing it at 43! (dont' worry, not all my gear sucks, mana is over 1800 at 43, wis at 186 so room to grow a bit).

Nice! This is the sort of thing I want to be able to do for returning folks soon.

Question: Does anyone have suggestions for a decent weapon I can save for on the low end as a druid?

Honestly, save your plat for spells and more important items in the future, and just wield whatever you pick up :)

I bought a combine scimitar to use for fighting wisps at level 14. I’m still using it at 35. I think it cost around 30-40pp at gypsy camp in Oasis.

if youre still near rivervale, and need some starting cash, do this quest multiple times for an hour or two - http://wiki.project1999.com/Deputy_Tagil%27s_Debt

You didn't mention if you're on blue or green.

I made a conscious decision to stay on blue even though green started right after I joined. I did that because my play time is limited and I'd likely not get to spend a lot of time crawling dungeons. Blue has an old economy which means there's lot of powerful weapons available for rock bottom prices (although likely still out of reach for absolute beginners).

I got a couple hundred plat from my necro and twinked my druid with a http://wiki.project1999.com/Smoldering_Brand. If you're patient you can get one for 100pp. It procs a DD for 14 but it procs at level 1 and the damage/delay ratio can't be beat for a "newbie weapon". I've since upgraded to a http://wiki.project1999.com/Skyfury_Scimitar but that one cost real plat (3k).

The brand drops in the Hole which should be coming to green soon, but I imagine it'll be a long time before they're 100pp on green!

Welcome you're gonna have fun!

for a halfling druid here is a good starting strat!:

1. Kill wolfs, wolfs & wolfs! so many wolfs! collect the skins! All the skins, dont sell them!
2. Find the leather working trade crafter, she is in a hut to the right if you are leaving rivervaile heading to misty, make rawhide armor for yourself, make it and sell it to merchants for money when you get extra to raise skill!
3. With the plat you make from this the first thing you buy is a Scimitar! you can get it from a merchant, its like 7 plat! this will be the best DPS until you are ready for a real magical weapon that you obtain from adventuring!
4. Next buy the best shield (from a merchant!) that you can, its a small shield, red with squares and not round shaped i forget the name/sze but yeah its cheep like 2 plat for a halfy!
5. by level 5 with this strat, you can get full rawhide scimitar and shield!

I call this my 5 in 5 full inventory and spells strategy :) you can do this in less than 5 hours!

Currently using a rusty scimitar. Picked it up off a skeleton if I remember right.

Buy a sharpening stone off of http://wiki.project1999.com/Bodbin_Gimple and combine it in a forge with your scimitar to make a http://wiki.project1999.com/Tarnished_Scimitar.

Same damage but slightly faster!

Finally found your post, so I can thank you!

At lvl 1 (Druid) I was broke of course and couldn't stay alive. Then I saw your post, and since then I can play now ;-) This quest is a lifesaver! I have now all the spells lvl1 &5 and bags. Thank you!

If you have any other high rewarding tip for starting Druid level, I'm all ears ;)
If not, this one is good enough!

Thank you from me also!
Wolf is actually the easiest to kill. I'm getting several different 'skins'

Black Wolf Skin
Medium Quality Wolf Skin (I'm assuming there should be high quality as well)
Low Quality Wolf Skin
and (per memory) Ruined Wolf Pelt.

Since I could not carry them all, I sold ruined ones.
Question, can I use only higher quality skins for making rawhide armor or all? Including ruined pelt?

OT question/suggestion for moderators:

This thread has lots of very useful info for Druids, it would be nice if Title could be changed a little bit reflecting this, if possible

yeah those medium ones I think are what you need to make armor for a halfling druid IIRC but maybe the high quality ones are also required, I think maybe its both yeah.

idk.. but yeah! 5 in 5! the funnest sunday night you can have in EQ imo I do it all the time lol Its actually 5 in like 3.5 but if you're casual its 5 in 5 hehe

Oh god I just saw this I'm too late. Don't kill wolves! You're a druid! Don't kill any animals! They're just dumb beasts that are part of nature, you love nature, why do you hurt nature?

Id say most hunters are close to ranger/druid so killing animals is ok, raising their corpses from the undead to destroy all life is a no no though. Just do something with every part of the animal and you're OK, hence make your full full set of armor with it :o

That love affair ended, when I was just minding my own business, exploring The Misty Thicket, breathing fresh air with full lungs, trying to be one with the nature, meditating... when these loving animals attacked and killed me for no reason! Several times!!!

I was resurrected and patched together several times. And at some point it snapped something with me. Maybe my Druid mind is not the same any more. That 'snap' was quite brutal! I don't know. What I do know is, it is now revenge time! :p ...storm is coming...

Pivo, unfortunately "Ruined Wolf Pelt" is exactly what you need to make Small Tattered/Patchwork armor. I would check merchants to see if there are any you could buy back, or kill MORE wolves for more, or you can combine https://wiki.project1999.com/Skinning_Knife (not too hard to make with low blacksmithing skill) in a sewing kit with any pelt to "reduce" the quality, and can do it again and again to get it back down to "ruined".

Also, at level 8, visit your trainer and put a point into Meditate, and put one into Sense Heading now if you haven't already. These skills won't improve until you put one point in to start them off. Meditate is currently bugged to make it look like you can put a point in even before 8, but it won't actually work until you hit 8. If you're sitting with spellbook open and the MEDITATE button clicked, you get mana back faster. This holds true until you hit level 35, at which point you meditate while sitting without needing the book open.
