Video Card selection and questions

Hey folks,

Just building a new computer. Going with the following:

Ryzen 5 3600 CPU
2x8gb 3200 ram
SSD for storage


My question:

How much worse would it be if i bought an additional R9 280x and crossfired, versus going with a RX 5500xt?

Its about a $100 less if I crossfire with my old GPU. Its only $100 but if the performance isnt that much of a difference, id rather crossfire now and put the money into a GPU down the road, when the $450 GPU that i want drops in price.

Additionally, What are your thoughts on running dual GPU's in general vs one single? Are games utilizing dual GPU's as much as a single?

I prefer a single card, less heat and space. How much does a card like the current one you have sell for on Ebay? that can help take some of the bite of the cost.

Looks like they are going for about 80 dollars. Thats not a bad idea.

I scrapped the crossfire idea altogether. Unless I could get another r9 280x for free, it just didn’t make sense. And even with the 2 cards, performance was still lackluster.

I ended up getting a Sapphire Pulse 5600 xt. With the new bios that came out on these, it puts them in a competitive range with a 5700 and nvidia 2060, but not nearly as costly.

Still I ended up dropping about 1200 on the total build. I realized I just didn’t have as good of components from my old computer as I originally thought.

Are you sure about 16gb is not enough ram? Nearly all Information out there points to 16 GB of memory being plenty. Windows 10 can’t fully require 10 GB by itself because I am currently running it on an 8gb 800mhz machine and it runs decently. Not a huge deal if I need to add more, as ram will only run me another 90 bucks if I need it.
