casting a spell without clicking the icon on the bar

I've seen people do it in streams. But how?

alt + # for the spell gem that you want to cast, top gem being 1, and continuing down to 8.

you can also use a command to do so:

/cast 1 to cast the first spell on your spell bar (from the top)
/cast 2 to cast the second spell,
etc.

You can do this to fast mem spells if you "cast" a spell in to an empty slot after clicking it in the book

Just be very careful that if you do this you don't accidentally hit ALT + 9.

EQ Titanium was based off a version of EQ that had 9 spell slots possible, so the client allows you to mem a spell in that slot if you use ALT + 9, and P99 hasn't figured out how to stop that.

But, P99 has figured out how to stop you from casting from that spell slot. So if you accidentally mem a spell into that slot, you won't be able to cast it, and you won't be able to mem it in any other slot ... but you also won't be able to un-mem it either (there's no key code for that).

If you accidentally ALT + 9 a spell you basically have to die to fix it ... you've been warned :)

You can set the spell gems to any keys you like, defaults are Alt + 1-8 as mentioned

Alt-O (Options) > Keys Tab > Change drop down category to Spell Casting
