Hello all,

I'm looking into coming to play on P1999 and was wondering if there is a good place to start where I might be able to find someone to group with. I have no current friends that I know playing this, but would really like to get involved. I don't have a ton of playtime during the warmer months here, but would still like to experience EQ again. Any tips for starter zone, most needed classes, or anything else a new guy like me would need to know is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

While there is a lot of focus on Kunark and the Field of Bone, I wouldn't suggest making a lizard on the basis of getting grouped to start with.

Most starter zones (unless you roll a troll, ogre or erudite) will have others on to group with that I've found.

As for classes, never roll a class that's "needed" as such - you might get to the 20s and decide you hate it. Play something you know you'll enjoy :)

What about Greater Fay? I love those zones, but wouldn't be opposed to starting in Freeport area either. Thank you for the welcome. Hope to be able to stick with this and see some content I didn't get to as a teenager.

If you're going to do Greater Faydark, for the love of god don't be smashing up wasps and bats... do the mail quest!

Tacar Tissleplay (inside Felwithe), "I will deliver mail to Kelethin"
(receive mail)
(run to Kelethin bard guild)
Turn mail in to Jakum Webdancer, receive exp and 11-15gp.
(run back to Felwithe)

...rinse/repeat. If you can handle a bit of tedium you'll soon be level 6 and have enough PP to buy your level 4-5 spells, bard songs, or whatnot ;)

EDIT: PS - grab a sow where you can!

Ec is cool and all but can be kind of daunting, there's a lot of competition, I rolled a wood elf and didn't have to leave faydwer till around 13 when I moved to oasis, the mail quest it good... Cb belts and pads are better imo... I used belts till around lvl 10 then started farming em... At 1pp per belt 2pp per pad I can't think of a better way for a new player to get on their feet... Gfay for the win!!

Last time I was there, GFay and CB were as lively as I remembered them ever being!

I really feel at home among the whole area around Kelethin and still know my way around Butcherblock to get to the boat so I'm prob gonna start a wood elf. Hope I can find someone to hang with. I got to reinstall Titanium tonight and should be on tomorrow during the day. Thanks for the replies all! :)

You turn these in to someone in Kaladim right?

And one more question. If I'm playing a ranger and I leave Faydwer is there a closer Ranger trainer on the main land near Freeport or am I stuck having to come all the way back to Kelethin to learn skills and buy spells?

I just did a quck check of the spell list and it looks like you are stuck going to gfay, surefall glade or rivervale to get most of your spells...

check here for the list http://wiki.project1999.org/index.php/Ranger

Ok thanks. That sucks but it's part of the EQ experience right? :) I remember it taking hours to get anywhere but it was an adventure!

You should find plenty of people in Gfay, and currently FoB is very busy as well as pointed out. :)

Yes you turn in pads/belts to Canloe in Kaladim.

Yes, in Kaladim. He's in one of the guilds. Pretty easy to find.

I started up a Wood Elf Druid. I'm level 11 now, but Gfay, CB, Butcherblock and even Steamfont are all quite populated. I had no trouble finding a group at the Orc camps in Gfay and CB is always loaded full of ppl. It's really awesome actually, really feels like reliving classic EQ which is of course the idea here :)

Lately me and my buddies travelled over the Freeport and are now hunting around EC, WC and N ro. Everything I just said applies to these areas too.
