A fresh PVP is always very popular at first. But after a few months the numbers drop hard every time.
Here is an attempt to solve that problem while making everyone happy. (even Rogean)
New PVP TLP Server Orange Starting Fresh pre-kunark with Vallon Zek (classic ruleset) from March 1st to May 31st.
June 1st server rules change to Sullon Zek (classic ruleset) until August 31st.
September 1st rules change again to Tallon Zek (classic ruleset) until November 30th
Winter is Coming - Rallos zek ruleset (with classic 1 item loot + coin ) begins December 1st until February 28th
Repeat this once for Kunark and once again for Velious.
After the 4th season in Velious merge server into red and continue the Seasonal Changes.
I dont know but maybe Changing the ruleset each season will be what it takes to keep the pvp server population thriving
Now I know we are not getting anything on march 1st. But a June 1st Sullon start would be fun.
I personally only played on Rallos Zek and a little bit on Sullon. so i'm not familiar with the the dynamics of Vallon/Tallon.
I have read someone saying they dont like the teams because some teams wouldnt have access to certain classes?
Am i the only one would thinks that sounds AMAZING though? I love the idea of 1 team having paladins and rangers but not SKs or whatever. bring it on please!
Pvp is fun because its chaotic. These seasonal changes will hopefully keeps things chaotic.
Worried that your guild will be torn apart when Sullon or Rallos kicks in? We should want that.
Im done.
Side note: I wish i tried Vallon/Tallon. I think i missed something amazing there. it was obviously so popular that 2 servers were made for it.
I wonder why red wasn't teams in the first place for that reason.
The more i think about it i would love a season that is "every race is their own team" Race wars.
PS: Change ToV back to normal on red.
Christina.

Sounds good but a refresh every 3 months doesn't sound too fun, plus alot of players like achieving their epic weapons post- kunark...No one's going to want to put the work in to equipt their character when it's going to just get whipe 2-3 months later. Some players wouldn't even reach 50 in a month, meaning thatll be cutting their equipting and pvping time down even more before reset :(
Maybe reset every year and a half or something lol

Not a server refresh/wipe every 3 months. just a ruleset change in progress.

I see the appeal of the seasonal and longer term recycle model. Even seasonal servers would draw less people with each new variation imo. A lot of people, as mentioned above, like to accumulate gear and achievements such as their epic or obtain rare spells like torpor.
I'm not sure how one bridges these two philosophies.
Rogean allegedly has lots of ideas and allegedly cannot stop talking about it.
I'd love to hear them.

Keep post content to under ~5-6 lines and maybe people will read it.

Excuse me, I am a highly paid lawyerdoctor and that's why I don't have time to read posts like this. I need to be either in my 33rd floor NYC office or on my top-geared warrior.

As this is discussing SOME project 99 backed PVP server of any kind, I fully support this post.
As a doctor with a law degree and also as a practicing high profile climate change psychologist working in Hollywood, I didn't have time to peruse the details but I will have a staff member give this a once over for formal approval.

Personally im not playing a 3 month server with classic xp rates. 10X, maybe. Like takes 8h 1-50. Then maybe.

Any new PvP server should have classic EXP, no yellow text and classic item loot. Short of that isn’t worth it cause not classic.

i feel this, is also kind of the only server that hasn't existed long term on the emu scene, a few poppedup but they were non-classic and had a lot of bugs
if p99 did this i would definately consider it

I agree this is the best recipe for real success and real fun and is the best solution to low level twink PVP.
However
I think they are determined to do a custom 2 team situation, and if they do that, I hope they do Infinite PVP engagement range which counters / mitigates twink pvp stuff by allowing friendly high levels to kill any enemy player killers, so the mean guy running through your leveling ground will not be there 24/7 but will just do drive by's occasionally and will occasionally get trapped and corpse camped in enemy territory.

I played on sullon and I had some fun with it but I feel like high lvls being able to attack low lvls is not very fun over all, unless people are ready for it. not on a box with sub 300 players.
it is definitely not classic or 99ish
it is nice when high lvls are encouraged to support lowbies with pvp and buffs, not pixels and powerlvling. it does make the game a lot richer.

If not FFA between teams I think a wider range is necessary, maybe the original +\- 8

+- 8 is still dog dook and makes it easier for a level 30 to camp unrest and harder for a level 60 friendly to go and do some defense work.
I feel like its sullon rules with 2 teams, or actual rallos rules with 4 lvl range
Anything in between sucks worse than either of those.
Original PVP spread (that scaled) on red99 was not great.
Full engagement with hard coded teams also fixes the OOR healer issue without having to make specific zones FFA which will then be gamed.

It is classic though. Sullon is where i first rolled, and i still vividly remember being broke in half by a 45 wiz nuke in blackburrow. I thought fuck this and rolled on Rallos instead. This is coming from someone who played eve online, where you could have 10 hours of grind wiped in a 30 second fight. It is legit harsh and i will come here to watch the funny, predictable debacle if they ever pick that as a server setup. Bonus points for adding xp loss because this isnt call of duty.

Despite the potential pitfalls I still prefer the hardcoded team no level range model
I mean having global team ooc akin to wow local defense channels so newbs can call the cavalry to assist in pvp if attacked by a high level.
That dynamic would ideally genetate more pvp encounters for all parties involved than the historic red model of pvping semi exclusively over raid targets.
It gives high levels something to do, buff and defend for instance, a group in mistmoore, from predators, creates more pvp encounters and is mutuallly
beneficial to the newbies and high levels alike who would gain from making sure their team mates level up big and strong
I think heartbrand has some very valid points about how blue has more limiting factors to how fast one can gear up and accomplish personal goals than on red and the added content creates a longer sustained playerbase. I think opening more opportunities and reasons to pvp not only would cause more people to keep playing but the added assistance from buffs etc by that high level shaman fending off the high level druid helps ease an environment where you cant just get buffed up in the ec tunnel.
Minimum pvp level should be 5 so int and wisdom casters can at least try to gate away from unwanted pvp encounters.
Tldr:
more incentive to pvp and more incentive for high levels to interact with low level players within their team is good.

I liked how on sullon zek. I think. We got to loot tokens for killing people in range. And there was an in game leader board.
I feel like if it is FFA any lvl can pvp any level. We should make CR ez for melees, and binds, teleports, so a warrior don't get popped in the bottom of Sola and screwed without gears. Maybe make it so we don't lose our corpses in pvp deaths.
