We're supposed to get a success/fail message on sneak. We did in original EQ. I am getting success/fail messages on hide.

We do get one.

Yeah, I forgot to put 1 point into training it when I started playing. That's where I went wrong. Sorry.

DE non-rogue not getting message upon hide. Still have to con mobs after trying to see if it worked. Is message just a rogue thing?

edit: Perhaps you mean the "You have hidden" message, but that is not a success/fail message since it always comes up even if you fail. At least for non-rogue DE that is true. I still have to con the mob to see if hide worked.

Rogue Sneak still isn't fixed if only the merchant sneak issue was fixed.

Sneak doesn't stay activated after a successful pickpocket. It also drops sometimes after using a throwing item. On live you could pickpocket and stay stealthed as well use ranged attack without breaking sneak.
