So, you belong to a niche internet community dedicated to a 12 year old MMORPG. You not only dabble in the game that is known for its dangerous addiction and ultra geeky fan-base, but you participate in the forums and culture revolving around it. That said, you most likely consider yourself a computer nerd or gamer geek of some sort (if you don't: denial). And if you're anything like me, you're damn proud of it.

P99 probably isn't your first stop on the internet or your first adventure in tech culture. Hopefully you are proud of your lifetime of nerdy activities, and should be eager to show off your conquests and accomplishments.

Do you pride yourself in how sweet your computer is? Or maybe you've beat every NES game known to man. Do you own an authentic Storm Trooper costume, or have you built your own Tony Stark arc reactor? Maybe you've scored millions of YouTube hits, but its ok too you've just posted millions of Digg comments. Do you prefer Linux and religiously use open source software? Or maybe you jailbreak your Apple hardware to make it your bitch. Are you a famous internet artist, or are you a famous internet troll?

Whatever it is that defines you as a geek/nerd/hipster/connoisseur/fan-boy/ or something, hopefully you're eager to show it off. So I invite you to brag a little here and share what kind of nerd cred you've built up. Anything goes, i'd say.

P99: +1

When I was 8 I was in a tech magazine for Intel. I was holding a mouse by its cord in front of my face looking disgusted.

Pretty distinguished, if I do say so myself.

Also, I'm Tralina. That's where all my e-cred comes from.

My house is littered with computers/parts. Had 500,000+ hits on the angelfire FF7 website I made with my friend when I was in elementary school. 100,000+ on the pokemon one I made (yes still in elementary school). Messed around with QBasic 3d code (Yeah, still elementary school)

Discovered girls in middle school and stopped programming so I could get laid... So that's the point where I stop being able to effectively nerd-brag.

I dated a girl who lost her virginity to the lead singer of Color Me Badd. BTW, she had pubes that were exactly like the hair on her head (no she wasn't black). It was very strange.. she had strait blonde pubes.

I also dated a girl who was the double for Ariana Richards in Tremors. But that was when I was young, skinny and actually got laid by animate objects.

I have a tattoo of the One Ring on my index finger. I dress up in a zelda costume for costume parties or halloween. My pubes are braided like a dwarven beard. I have three computers, one for porn, one for everquest, one for tv. I live in my moms basement, and frequently invite high school losers over on the weekend for dungeons and dragons play sessions. I do LARPs once a month, I'm an Earl now, and command 50 people beneath me. I'm the kid doing lightning bolt in the youtube video. My penis is very small and I have alot of acne, im 30lbs overweight. I consider suicide everytime a kid from highschool comes in and talks shit at me while im making his mcflurry. I visualize naked elven women when I jerk off on my inflatable lover(i wouldnt risk impregnating it with my seed).

Haha very nice. Was it an Apple mouse? Or did they think girls would be disgusted by computers? Or maybe they were just being too literal about the mouse?

<3 Mimosa hostilis

One of the professors SWIM works with synthesizes his own LSD and SWIM routinely trades him several grams of DMT for 1/2 sheets of blotter. Not really sure why he just doesn't make it himself but SWIM isn't going to complain.

Fucking nice.

I hosted a segment on Nick News about hoover dam when I was a kid. Also, I've ordered more than one case of Bawls online.

I was on a CAL-I cs1.6 team and got paid to play cs briefly pre-depression.

Denial Nerd points.. let's tally mine 'em up:

I owned Pong, when it was brand new, and was addicted to it. +1

I played Atari for hours a day and loved it, before it ever was called the 2600. "Combat" ftw. +1

I bought a brand new Commodore, not the crappy C64 mind ya. Oh no, I had to be a pro uber nerd at the age of 15 and get the Commodore 128. And then actually program my own crappy games on it.. which were about like low tech Space Invaders. +2

Later I played the D&D games on the C128 which required changing the discs whenever you zoned, 8 discs at that. Pool of Radiance addict. +1

I actually used the modem on that C128 to go "online" and send text to my friend down the street. I got to his house before the message even arrived. +1

I owned the NES, then Genesis, then SonyCD, and never moved off of consoles until I saw Iksar in Kunark. And thought Iksar were the coolest thing since Pong. +1

I drove 7 hours and slept in my Camaro to go to an Everquest-fest thing in Baltimore to meet members of my guild IRL. +1

I still think Iksar are the coolest thing since Pong. +1

I married a bigger nerd than I am. +2

That's over 10 nerd points. More depending on your grading system. To look at me you'd never know I was so uncool

Started young, with many things :)

Then again I guess I did give away something.. 15 with a Commodore 128, roughly the '80s so... eh yeah okay. Old man it is!

it's a compile whore now. in college i used to live in a house with a couple other high geeks and we threw it together because we had this idea for an ecommerce site that never took off. I dunno, I'm pretty geeky, but I like using my geekery to make money.

for example I surveyed springfield missouri and plotted markers via gps where every open wifi node in the city was (Wardriving), and dropped a card with my number, the risks of an unsecured network on it on their door, and the offer to fix it for a fee. i made money off of around 60% of the cards i dropped. the rest i only assume either figured out how on their own, or called geek squad.

My Windows Media Center wasn't good enough. I had to create a mythtv backend server (one of two leftover Xeon Quadcore IBM xSystems) with multiple frontends so we can watch our downloaded tv shows throughout the house. Of course, we don't have cable tv, just cable internet. When I scrounge up some cash, I'll put another couple of hard drives into the backend and setup a software snapshot raid such as FlexRaid. It only has a single 2TB drive atm.

After that, I'll use the other server for a VMware Vsphere 4 server for training purposes. Cisco and VMware, its where the money is at in IT.

M.U.L.E., Adventure Construction Set, Starflight, and Wasteland (precursor to the Fallout series) FTW! They're coming out with a modern-day version of the Commodore 64... someone else can post the link... i'm on my phone. Which ironically probably has 1000x the computing power of an old C64.
