Live server has a beautiful sky with an amazing sunset - at night, it even has a starry sky. The water gfx were also vastly improved.

Is there a way to port these gfx in p99 (sky + water)? It's hard to look back at the choppy bitmap oceans and bland sky.

Anyone know where to start to try to swap out water n sky gfx to look like this, assuming a visual only change would be legit? Where is sky and water stored?

Indeed, but so have the textures and spells -- there are a ton of aesthetic mods in this forum for people that want the classic experience but with modern gfx. Just need to know how for sky/water in a similar fashion. Gotta make use of these pixels!

[Water] Found it, maybe: https://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139469
[Sky] There's also an INI file. I bet if I can find live's for the template, if it follows Titanium, it'll do the trick. Or maybe an old post.

Explicitly disabled? I understand doing this by default, but to server-side disable it even if you want it is incredibly lame, considering there are so many pick n choose non classic goodies. Wow. It's not like it affects anyone else.

(Doh, edit time expired) How is this any different from changing textures?

I explicitly agree with this (lol). It's not a quality of life issue, it should be a simple adjustment, it affects no one but the end user, and it contradicts the fact that most people are uprezzing character models, entire zones, and using a Velious UI when Velious hasn't been released yet.
Soooo... *bump* let's find a solution that makes common sense here folks. I vote for the ability to achieve HD sky and water. Anyone else?

Yesh - it's no different than any other visual improvement that affects no one else.
Indeed, we enjoyed the game mechanics in 1999: it doesn't mean the graphics are easy on the eyes in 2020 or we wouldn't have texture packs, etc, with links to it pinned by staff. If we can and want to improve it for our own self-experience, much like the precedence of being able to swap out textures/spellfx, please allow us to do so :)
While a /vote won't necessarily get a change if dominant, perhaps staff may grant the request if enough folks are interested.
Heck, there used to be a simple "new water" checkbox in options. If they could just bring that back, that'd fix the water fast. As for sky ... no checkbox for that, but allowing us to swap would do the trick.

***BUMP***
It's 2023, folks.
Let us have our Classic experience but with the choice to upgrade the water and sky.
Please and thank you.
