I think I speak for everyone in the EverQuest community when I say Brad McQuaid is a legend that will never be forgotten.

From WarWizard to Pantheon, his virtual worlds influenced millions of lives, mine included. EverQuest, over 20 years later, is still bringing enjoyment to fans.

Project 1999 will continue working to preserve the vision. Thank you, Brad.

From Fennin Ro, during the Soerbaird's "Freeport Festival of Song".

Aradune showed up, joined my group, and made it snow in Freeport for us. Quite the day.

He will be missed.

Nothing but respect for Brad. He helped to pioneer the type of game me and my brother would dream about playing one day.

That first night of server launch was so memorable, I don't think I'll ever have that level of immersion again. Even through all the disconnects and server stability issues, it didn't seem to matter. We had a taste for Norrath and we stayed up all through the night, 3 of us, taking turns at the keyboard.

A true visionary was lost, thank you staff for keeping that vision alive and preserving the original game for future generations to enjoy. You are, quite literally, doing Brad's work.

Project 1999 should consider putting in an NPC, named Aradune, with the green armor, and fiery avenger, parked somewhere in the Karana's.. (Maybe EC Tunnel?)

Maybe give him Brad famous quotes when hailed?

I've been talking to some folks about doing a a few get togethers (as to be flexible) just to hang out and celebrate the impact that Brad has had on all of us.. I'm on Green, but I'd encourage people to meet up on teal as well of course:

- 9pm EST Friday at McQuaid's Bar in Halas
- 9pm EST Saturday at The Hall of Truth in Freeport
- 9pm EST Sunday at the wizzie Spires in Greater Faydark (originally I think I said PoD lift, but spires are more Evil friendly)

Spread the word; it would be awesome to see a bunch of people out there to pay tribute to the man who built this for us.

Can't say anything that hasn't already been said other than my own story. EQ helped me escape and survive a pretty rough childhood and teenage years. The sense of mystery, discovery, and community stands out as one of the few bright spots during that time for me. I've enjoyed countless hours of not only Brad's creation but the creations of others he inspired. Wishing peace and comfort to his family.

McQuaid did an interview on Sirken's livestream a number of years ago where this project and others were discussed at length. His character, Aradune Mithara, had been remade for him complete with green name and fiery sword iirc.

I always wonder when I travel around this world, someone is responsible for all this. All the trees, where they were placed, the bends in the corridor, the statues, the walls, the buildings, the spawns, everything was made by a bunch of people. We go to Guk, every inch familiar and every step memorized, but this place that we all know so well was thought out by people who had no idea how iconic these places would become. Twenty years later thousands of people are lost in nostalgia or experiencing the magic for the first time. I don't know exactly what Brad was responsible for, whether what I'm looking at had his hand in it, that's immaterial. I know as long as an EQ emulator is running somewhere, that's all the tribute I need to Brad and his team.

Saw this sad news about Brad on Reddit yesterday. Reading the thread comments awoke a massive yearning for EQ nostalgia which led me back here. I called up my best friend of 20 years who I met back in 1999 and last night we reentered Norrath once again as a couple of clueless newbies on Teal server. Many thanks to the Project 1999 team for making this possible. It's quite a fantastic thing has been created here for old fans like myself.

Oh shit been off the internet loop and didn't even know. The quote they used on the Pantheon twitter is both fitting and accurate. What makes games like EQ so great is that it doesn't just feel like a game. It's what makes it great despite the flaws. Few MMOs accomplish that for one reason or another.

I need "Everquest" the Netflix series that will run for just one season, maybe 8-10 episodes and the first episode will show Brad as a young kid sitting by a pond and he's just staring at these frogs and staring at the frogs and then the last episode where everyone is just sitting around on launch day looking at the servers fill up.

It was stunning to read that he had passed away. I felt a deep sense of loss. The guy helped create the MMO industry in its infancy and twenty years later was gone. Such a short time. What is wonderful is that his creation lives on through the players that keep coming to play the game. P1999 really represents that vision.

They are probably receiving more support than they can process at this point. One positive you can take out of this horrible negative is it will have people focused more than ever.

Even though its not classic. I agree with a previously suggested idea that some kinda in game tribute should be put in that players can visit. Brad McQuaid's idea afterall has had a profound affect on all of us that we are here playing in a recreation of such an old game with such fanatic dedication. Where better than here on p1999 for such an offering?

What a guy...He and his team did what has never been done again. But one day it will, and he'll deserve his credit. Agree with so much of what has already been said prior to me getting a chance to post!! Please don't forget about us back on Blue svr if you put in the EC Tunnel NPC !!

The true Muse from which our never ending stories were first a dream, yet thrived to create this dream into reality for all back in a time when the technology was still too archaic to support it's FULL potential.

I can't put in words my appreciation for the 20yrs of escape and enjoyment... so thankful that ALL of those involved with the P1999 community keep this going still.
Prayers for his family, loved ones, and the Pantheon dev teams. We should all dig deep and join the Beta donation to assist them on bringing his last dream into to fruition for all to enjoy as long as EQ has been going strong!

When I was a Guide on Tunare, I remember seeing a bunch of memoralizing statues in cshome -- would be cool to add a new one chilling above us all. Then again, it would be cooler if we could see it. Maybe a future statue when p99 staff said they'd add some custom content later?

I was just browsing online, I don't even recall what the subject was now, and saw a link. RIP Brad, EverQuest, I can say confidently, saved my life. It really sheltered me through some rough years of my life and the friends I would inevitably find in Norrath would help me get through those years.
