View Full Version : New Player - Kicked when "Entering World"

Hey all,

I am a new player (well old player returning after a loooong time) and have all the credentials for the game. I've got clean installs and followed the wiki.

When I make a character and hit "Enter World" the EGGame freezes for about 8 minutes then unfreezes back at the login screen. It does create the character afterwards, but I can't actually log into the game. This booting to login happens when I try and log onto these created characters as well.

I've tried making different characters, reinstalling, different servers, updating all drivers, turned off firewall, use WinEQ2, tried to resize my window in the eqclient file, in windows xp SP2 compatability mode, its running on core "0" and running as an admin.

I have an Intel i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3501 Mhz, 4 Core(s) on a Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI mobo running windows 10. I tried to disable the turbo boost thing in bios select but it fucked my pc up and had to reset my bios afterwards. I dont think i can turn off any overclocking that may be going on. My bios are all set on auto and optimized settings atm.

Im at a loss and keep sinking hours a night trying to get this working to play! Any help would be so welcome.

This may not help, but your problem sounds a bit like one that I was having last week - I hit enter world, client froze and then several minutes later it booted me to the login screen. Oddly enough Red worked, both for character creation and play - Blue/Green/Teal did not.

I switched my monitor's resolution down from the highest setting to 1600x900, shut off my PC and reset the router. I have no idea why that helped but I haven't had the problem sense.

Still having this strange issue.


To add, I can only get to character selection on the teal server. For Red, blue, and green, I can't even connect and get to character select. Instead, the connection times out, i get booted to login screen and when I get to server selection again it prompts me with an error 1017. When I connect to teal server, I make it to character selection, hit enter world and then the quoted is error is what happens.


Genuinely puzzled/

This is mostly educated guessing but...
I highly suspect this issue has to do with the changing of videos modes and/or resolution when transitioning from server select to char select or char to in-game.

I play p99 on multiple machines with various hardware / os combos.

Since the lighting changes I have issues on all newer pcs with various integrated graphics.
Larger wide screen monitor w/integrated pc will not load past char select in resolutions higher than 1920 x 1080
Other monitors that have lower native resolution will load to world but ALL of the pcs with win 7 or win 10 + integrated graphics lag like no other when more than 10 people are around me.

Literally cannot raid...

Ironically the laptop I had bought for eq luclin from 2002 runs p99 better than any newer machine I've tried.
( pink dell laptop that was bought for penny off of bing bang theory ) has what was a top shelf graphics for that time.

Sadly even on the older laptop I still lag too much to be an effective bard + minute plus load times since lighting patch.

NOTE: All of these machines would let me raid without any issue prior to the lighting patch.

Tldr: use a lower desktop resolution + change eq options from login screen + change in game options All to equal desktop resolution.
**Note windowed and full screen each have a resolution setting... so there are Four individual resolution settings that eq stores.
