Hey y'all, so I am planning on rolling an Ogre Shaman however the starting area and plat prospects are pretty low. Been thinking about rolling a Barbarian to start and then transferring items to the Ogre at lvl 14. The idea is:

Level to 14 in Blackburrow. Access to gnoll fangs, good newbie quests, quest bags, clickie neck for that newbie hammer. Seems like it would be decently fast to get to 14. Once I get bind and stuff, run to Feerrott area and transfer the items, extra spells, etc to the Ogre.

Does this make any sense? Or should I just roll Ogre and slog through the first levels with a rusty mace and netted gear? What do you guys think?

I'd just roll ogre. Or just play the barb cause barb shamans are fashionquest as heck

Ditto, just make the ogre. There’s nothing wrong with Grobb/Oggok area at low levels. Yard trash to 3 or 4, trash outside Guk for a few levels. Move inside by lvl 10 and you can stay there til 30s when you move into LGuk. Who knows how crowded the Guk zones will be... there may not be any merbs, but we’ll find out!

Your call of course, but this sounds like the LEAST fun way to experience the new green server.

If your decision comes down to pure math however...

How long would it take you to hit 14 on a barb shaman?
How much cash do you expect to transfer?
How long would it take you to farm the same amount of cash as a 14 ogre shaman?

There's your answer.

Not worth it. Just roll the Ogre if that's what you want to play!

Followup - is 14-19 as ogre sham viable in Blackburrow?

Can I turn in gnoll fangs eventually at all? Or not without faction work?

Will anyone buy/sell to me?

Uguk is OK but was thinking about going to runnyeye or Najena for 19+ - better shaman loots and lower player count hopefully.

I suspect Najena will have it's fair share of traffic. JBoots will be dropping off of Drelzna at the start as well.

This is a bizarre plan.

I would definitely just roll the ogre, the time spent on those 14 levels will get you to higher camps with more cash.

If it makes you feel any better, the Tribunal Symbol quest isn't in so no free magic hammer

Just create the ogre and log out at the Inn and build up that sweet rested exp(double).

I think Gnoll Fangs are awesome, but I'm not sure they're even worth a non-Erudite/Barbarian/Human/Half-Elf relocating, let alone making an entire second character for. Crushbone belts are kinda good too (;)), and even without an item like that I hear people like Upper Guk, Befallen, Najena also. Well, Upper Guk at least.

What about making a Human ranger to 12, twinking a woodelf warrior to 9, twink a human wizard to 17, then take all the ill gotten gains to twink out your orge shaman

Lizard meat will get you rusty two handers that sell for 2g 7s and some copper, lizard tails will get you raw hide armor, and the lizards themselves drop cloth armors and rusty weapons. Feerrott isn't so bad for cash in the 1 to 9 range if you take full advantage of those turn ins, especially the almost 1.5 plat per stack of lizard meat.

Plus as a shaman there are really only a couple of level 1 spells and like 1 to 3 level 5 spells that are worth worrying about, so 1 to 2 plat worth all together until level 9.

If you want to get your Ogre Shaman starter gear, bags, cash, etc. I would just start with a class that can farm some plat as your first character and then go do your Ogre Shaman in a couple months and semi-twink it a bit.

I just made an ogre shaman on blue recently and leveled to 5. From lizard meat quest and other loot I made around 20pp. The barb is a waste of time and any of the qeynos plat quests are going to be highly contested like rabid wolf, grizzlies etc.

Feerrott is great for plat. Each of the lizard broodlings drops a few silver and sometimes cloth, rusty weapons or even a cracked staff and lizard meat. 4 meat get you a rusty two-handed sword at the SK guildmaster that sells for 2.8 gp. No other of my test chars made as much plat as the ogre SK.

By the time you hit level 5 you can be in full shop bought leather and have more than enough plat for a combine weapon. - Or get a full set of banded from those people who make banded at cost. You might have to bring the large molds over to Freeport though.

Edit: 4 lizard tails get you a piece of tattered or raw hide armor in the warrior guild.

Was thinking about taking up blacksmithy myself and selling forged weapons and banded pieces in the evil zones. You can't buy the sheet metal locally but it's possible to craft it.

If anyone else is gonna be in the Feerrott this weekend. Hit me up! I'll be making newbie. Will be logging in Friday at launch.

I understand where you are coming from, but that time spent on the Barbarian isn’t worth what you would bring over to the Ogre. Just roll an ogre and you will be better off.

First of all I have checked and the quest for the neck item that clicks Hammer of Flattening is not in Green.
Secondly you can't transfer gnoll fangs, they are no drop.
Third of all if you are referring to the quest bags for gathering fungus and Ice Goblin Necklaces, they are no drop as well.
Just start an Ogre
