So when I log in, the game displays in a box that takes up only half the screen. I can hit alt + enter to maximize the screen, but then if I click anywhere it returns the screen to it's former size.

Further, I don't see the menu button anywhere to try and change settings.

Can anyone please assist?

Thank you, that's a start at least.

Do you know why clicking on some parts of the screen forces the game back into windowed mode?

Whenever I go fullscreen windows alerts me that the optimal resolution is something else. That might have something to do with it?

I don't even seem to be able to change the size of the window.

Yeah that doesn't work. The game thinks its still at the former size so when you click outside the original window it refreshes and forces back to small window.

Dont use the ingame settings to set resolution. Instead go into your eqclient.ini in your game folder and look for this section:

[VideoMode]
WindowedWidth=2560
WindowedHeight=1384

Change those values from my example to your preferred size, save and relaunch game.

Depending on your O/S the best bet is to open up the client, get logged in, Alt+O for options, click display tab and check the best supported resolutions from the drop down menu. (I always recommend matching your desktop resolution, windowed: This will make it easier as well to alt+tab back and forth if you need too). If for some reason you cannot match your desktop resolution in game then you can do as BlackBellamy suggests and go into the .ini file.

I used to have this problem, attaching my monitor via a VGA (or was that SVGA?) cable. The monitor would show a message that the resolution was wrong, and it's preferred resolution was not even an option on the Alt O tab.

Then I belatedly realised my monitor has an HDMI port, so using that instead I no longer get the message that this is not the optimal resolution.

I don't know the science behind it, but that made a big difference for me.
