I know everyone here is very focused one particular 20-year old elf sim, but I just wanted to remind everyone that the Internet Archive (ie. the people behind the Wayback Machine, which is used for so much classic research here), also have another project: making old DOS games available to play on the internet.
Just recently they added a ton of games to it, and they can all be played in your browser; see for yourself: https://archive.org/details/softwarelibrary_msdos_games.
Of course, they have classics like Bard's Tale, Wizardry, the old Sierra * Quest games (King's Quest, Space Quest, etc.) ... but they also have a ton of lesser-known, but still really awesome (if you can get past the UI/graphics) RPGs.
For instance, if anyone is looking to lose a few weeks to a classic they may never have heard of, check out:

Oh man, thank you for mentioning Bard's Tale! I got that as part of a "10-pack " of games from Interplay as an impressionable youth in the early 90s. Tons of discs to load into the tower

Darklands was one hell of a game! Pretty sure my copy came on the huge 5 1/2 floppy disks. Almost felt ahead of its time

I beat oregon trail deluxe without anyone dying. Beth was about to be put down though, bitch got bitten by 3 snakes, caught a fever twice, dynsentary, and broke her arm about four times. Despite her best efforts I coasted to oregon with her still wasting oxygen!

Talking about educational games one a few people may remember is Super Solvers: Treasure Mountain. Where you catch gnomes.
Dude... I opened that... and played wold3d... and when I got into the hallway with the secret door for the small machine gun, I immediately knew exactly where I was and how to open it. It's been like 25 years since I played it. Damn... some things just never go away.

Its not computer, but tabletop. Mordheim was released in 1999. Nothing more fun than gathering a party of greedy mercenaries to scour through a haunted city destroyed by an evil meteor for arcane artefacts!
Oh, the one thing more fun than that is to smash down any other warbands foolish enough to also be searching the ruins for shards of magical spacerock.

I approve of this attempt to derail my thread about 20+ year old computer games with a post about a 20+ year old miniature game :)

I love how the sword swings to the right and down, but the blood spurts off in another direction, from another point on the body :D Gotta <3 these old games
EDIT: The more I stare at it the more I realize it's actually kind of, sort of close to being right. It's almost like an uncanny valley thing, where being "kind of close" makes it look more wrong.

Yea, I was more focused on his flesh being consumed by arcane fire then watching the skeleton disintegrate.
