View Full Version : Do you wish you rolled differently?

In the thread "shamans are just good necros", there is a debate which is best race for shaman; troll or ogre? That got me thinking
Do you wish you would have rolled differently? Stats, race or class? How many non iksar necros wish they wouldve rolled iksar? Or how many iksar necros wish they rolled a different race?

I rerolled from 17 innorruuk troll with snare to babarian (29 so far) because TF2 taught me the importance of wearing a cool hat.

Had I rolled an ogre shaman — I would have no regrets ;) haha.
Honesty play what you want to look at for the remainder of your EverQuest. Unless you are an OCD power gaming min/maxxer, it doesn’t matter. I happen to have a bit of that bug, but luckily for me ogres were my first love in 1999.
Honestly, frontal stun immunity is not over rated. It is the ONLY trait not available through other means since the server will stop before AAs. The ability as a shaman to get that root or slow off while being quadded in the face, or get stunned is quite literally life and death at times.
What about Regen? Chloro. What about more Regen? Fungi. What about “I neeed even more Regen!!!” Slow your pace on cannni dance and perfect it lol.
Iksar AC though? Get moar armors.
Frontal Stun Immunity? Ogre only.
But ultimately it is not “game breaking” it just increases the quality of life especially in a solo environment. Truly I have heard trolls make the better “group” shaman. And while I love the purple eye troll....the ogre is still more to love for me, personally.

On live: yes. Paladins sucked.
On P99: heck no. Necro as first class was a good way to get off the ground.
On green: time will tell, but I doubt it. Have a pretty solid strat.

On live, at EQ launch my friends and I all made characters. Our thinking was D&D based so we looked for multi class and multi race. I made a Half Elf Druid as one of my first characters. Only months later did I wish I had rolled different race. The reason? I didn’t like the armor graphics for leather wearing Half-elves.

Hahahaha this hits home. I had a 31 Troll Shaman and I rerolled to Barb for that reason, and other fashion questing ;)

All of my rolls have been correct except for my necromancer. Went DE thinking of the superior fashion, only to realize later I'm almost always in skeleton form and cant see my netted kelp hawtness most of the time.

Never played EQ before P99. RL friends dragged me into it.
I asked them what class we needed most and what was the hardest class to play.
Enchanter was the answer.
Still to this day wish I had been told about the wiki, etc before starting. Did half Int half CHA start. I could really use that extra 10 CHA right now.

To me the only race that is significantly better is the ogre for all it's classes then the iksar for necro and monk.
Everything else is pretty moot. Half elf ranger and druid p bad tho.

Not sure if this is still the case but however long ago the best solo shaman on the server was a barbarian. so Frontal stun immunity isnt that big of a deal if a Barb is the best shaman on the server. Play what you want. dont min max
Class, no. Rogue is super lazy and I love it for a "main".
I regret not going gnome, though; wall vision is an S tier racial ability.

I wish I made my enchanter first. But i suppose i might not have rolled a cleric if i didnt play it first so maybe it paid off.
I do sometimes wish I made Eberron a human for dragon helm fashion at end game but didnt have enough insight to do this from the beginning.
I also desperately wish I could race change my iksar warrior to dark elf or wood elf.

D12 pick a race
then roll to pick a class, diety
Then rank stats by importance for your character, roll a
D<total stat allocation points> - put this many points in primary stat
D <remaining stat points> - into the second
and so on.
Could be a fun way to play, though you may want to swap race/class if you want an even chance at playing each class (race first will give you high chance for warrior and rogue...). Also getting unlucky and winding up as bertox gnome warrior with all his points in intelligence could be a... unique challenge.
Actually sounds fun enough I may do this for like half my slots on green. Whether i end up playing those chars is something different!

Interesting thread! My main is a Wood Elf Druid and I've never once regretted rolling her the way I did. I love using her Tunare-only items (Gloves of Earthcrafting, Warden Symbol of Tunare).
I do have a Dark Elf Necro (which my boyfriend strongly encouraged me not to make lol) So far he's only Level 14, so I can't really know yet if I regret rolling him the way I did. But he's been alright so far.

Get a halfling mask for wall vision.

Wish I would have gone bard from the start of my EQ career. Wasted a lot of time leveling a ranger to 30 and then random other classes until finally going bard and falling in love.

I hear that. I want to fresh on green but my blue main is already the greatest class.

On Live (Bristlebane) I made a Barbarian Shaman named Loramin ... not for any good or logical reason, but because my friend who got me to play was making a Barbarian Warrior, and I wanted to play with him so I made a Barbarian also (and a Shaman seemed like a better match than a Rogue). Oh, and Loramin was a server-generated name :)
Fast forward a decade-plus. I discover P99 and make ... a Barbarian Shaman named Lormain. Now look, I read the Shaman's Crucible back in the day (you think this forum has a lot of arguments about the best Shaman race?) I knew full well that Ogre was "the best" Shaman race at max level ... but I made the Barbarian anyway.
Maybe I like the XP bonus, or maybe it's the faction in good cities. Maybe it's my lovely polar bear hat and the fact that I can turn into a polar bear: I dunno. But I have never regretted making or re-making Loramin.
The one character I do regret though is my Iksar Necromancer. I caved into the pressure and made an Ikky Necro instead of a Dark Elf like I did on live ... and now I never play him.
On Green I'm planning to start a (guilt-free) Dark Elf Necromancer, and I'm really looking forward to it. Now the only question is, do I make him as character #1 or #2 or ...

Attempting 3 different classes as an iksar due to their Op racial abilities but realizing at the end of day the race is just ugly af with shitty animations.

On live I never considered it. Played a high elf paladin from 1999 to 2003. D&D Third Edition hadn't come out yet, and just about the only paladins you could do in tabletop were human or saurial. I also thought the idea of a high elf paladin was cool. I didn't realize how gimped they rather were until way later, and even now I probably wouldn't have changed it.
On here, quite often. Doing a warrior, let alone an ogre warrior during the classic era here sucked major balls. I mostly rolled it because a friend of mine from back in the day used to talk so much smack about how "I would have kept playing Everquest if warriors and ogres were better. Life as a warrior was so hard. Yeah, paladins are so gimp, but not compared to ogre warrior." Dude only made it to level 37, and spent more years whining about it than playing the game. I get to hold this over his head now. Plus being a big fat tall ogre is amusing.
I did burn out pretty hard right when I hit around 47, but things got a bit better later with Kunark. I did have fun with my human SK bloodsaber alt though. I think if I was going to reroll, I'd consider doing a troll or ogre SK. I'd never get an exp group again though.

Guys that won't group with a hybrid are assholes.
If you choose a class you think is cool you will have no regrets. There is no end all ultimate class. All have their place.
Some race / class combos are kinda dumb but also not very significant. Even half elf druids with no wisdom are ok even though I hate them.

I used to see it come up a lot. Shared exp penalty was rough.
