View Full Version : Miscellaneous: 60 FPS lock is buggy - maybe change it to 99 ?

For many of us, the 60 FPS lock has caused performance issues as per the reports on the forums.

I experience it myself, and I have a very decent computer that runs the latest 3D games just fine. FPS drops drasticaly when there are 10+ player characters on the screen.

Please consider trying to lock the FPS at 99, as it would serve the same purpose of defeating the FPS hacks, but hopefully would solve the performance issues we're experiencing.

I'm volunteering to beta test the DLL if needed!

Note: locking to 100 would be bad, too, as it causes other issues (mouse look starts to be weird).

Check and make sure your graphics card preferences for EQ haven't reverted to your shitty integrated Intel graphics card instead of your 3D card.

It hasn't reverted.

Maybe delete your graphics card profile for EQ game and make a new one?

I'm having same issue.

Could you explain to an ogre how to do this?

Again; could you explain to an ogre how to do this?

Game is kinda unplayable for me atm.

100 on the ingame slider is actually just unlocked FPS, as can be seen on things like RTSS. That is what caused the bugs, your mouselook polling is based on FPS and the higher it goes the lower your mouselook sensitivity.

Your graphics card could theoretically be putting EQ in to a low power mode with the new FPS lock. You could see if you have any luck going to (only know how for Nvidia, while EQ is closed) NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Add > eqgame.exe and then using the dropdown menu to locate EverQuest (eqgame.exe) > Power management mode > Prefer maximum performance then clicking apply in the bottom right.

I run p99 on Linux.
There's no such thing as the Nvidia control panel.

It used to run great before the lock, I usually used to set it at 90-99 FPS cap.

Any news on this matter?

I have tried the above mentioned + one core + /dyn off + went through the possibilities mentioned in the graphic section on wiki. All with no luck.

I still lack like hell after this last patch. If more than 3 PCs/NPCs are within my view it becomes unplayable for me, and thats like everywhere :(

What graphics cards are you using?

1. Post the exact model and driver version in use for every GPU in your system, whether dedicated or integrated. List both if you have both.

2. Post a screenshot of your EQ advanced graphics settings, as attached.

I just tested how WinEQ2 works for me. Sadly it doesnt help with the lag at all. I tested the one core thing as well. And the /dyn off as well. I went through it all.

It seems like I have lag all the time, but it gets more intence as soon as I have more than 2 NPCs/PCs within my view, which might indicate the latest changes in light have something to do with it? Donno. Im kinda frustrated, as its unplayable atm.

Yea something is REALLY not right with the 60FPS hardcap. Sometimes in EC tunnel I drop down to about 35FPS which is crazy. BEFORE the cap was implemented I used to run at a 100% locked 90FPS even with 200 players around me. I also get random complete stutters now which never occurred before either. Happens maybe once every 5 minutes or so.

Is it not possible to increase the cap 90/120/144Hz without re-enabling the ability to exploit? The only HALF-REMEDY I've discovered so far is using the Nvidia Control Panel to force 4xMSAA and 4xSSAA on EverQuest which basically forces my graphics card to run at full speed resulting in a consistent 60FPS. Forcing maximum performance mode on BOTH my CPU and GPU, despite maintaining a solid 5000MHz CPU // 1950MHz GPU at all times still results in FPS drops.

Specs are:
9900K
32GB 3500MHz CL15
GTX 1080Ti under water
1TB NVMe

So a hardcap limit of 99FPS should still work to prevent the exploits just fine?

Are others experiencing this also using an integrated Intel HD graphics chip?

Izmael

(And before someone chimes in about intergrated Intel HD chips being "shitty", I'd like to note that even IHD chips released 10 years ago RUN CIRCLES around top gaming 3D cards available in 2003, let alone 1999, as far as performance is concerned.)

Although they are low-performing chips, relatively speaking, I'm more interested in establishing commonality and possible issues around power-saving kicking in.

For NVidia cards, follow these instructions:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/237319/tutorial-how-to-properly-disable-power-saving/

For Intel HD integrated cards, follow these instructions:

https://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD2503BB0001R01.htm

Turn off all that power saving, please report back if it helps.

Update to my situation:

I gave up and re-started with a new installation of EQ. This worked! And im totally lag free just like in the good old days. However, I was still puzzled about the cause that had triggered this.

Today I talked with a friend, at he said the same thing had happend to him not long ago. He had, just like me, unzipped the patch files directly in to the EQ folder. Somehow that method doesnt proporly replaces some of the files when they land into the folder from the zip file. Insted the files should be unzipped in a different folder and then copied in to the EQ folder. Im not too technical about this, because I simply dont know better. Maybe others can elaborate.

Anyways, this might be a thing to test for others in my situation.

My guess is that, when you copy/pasted your P99 files to the new computer, your eqclient.ini file had settings from your old computer that didn't go well with your new setup.

I am 99% sure that if you would've let your new computer create a fresh new eqclient.ini file (by simply removing or renaming the old one), it would've solved the problem. It solved my problems with heavy lag, and I just got a new laptop, with integrated graphics card and P99 folder copied from my old computer.
