The wiki has a http://wiki.project1999.com/FashionQuest_Guide to help with just this sort of thing. Unfortunately it's not completely straightforward ...
In a perfect world, you'd use the wiki's multi-category search to find items that have the categories:
Warrior Equipment
Troll
Head
Fashion: Black
... but the wiki only has equipment categorized by class, not race, so you can only do:
Warrior Equipment
Head
Fashion: Black
But then if you do just that ... http://wiki.project1999.com/Special:MultiCategorySearch?wpInCategory1=Warrior Equipment&wpInCategory2=Fashion: Black&wpInCategory3=Head ... you get no results.
If you remove "Head", you'll see why: http://wiki.project1999.com/Special:MultiCategorySearch?wpInCategory1=Warrior Equipment&wpInCategory2=Fashion: Black
As you can see, there's only ten Warrior-usable items in the game that literally have a tint color of #000000 (Black). Those items don't include any head gear.
However, that doesn't mean there aren't any items that look black. There are also lots of other "dark shades of gray" that will likely look very close to black, and they're all listed on that fashion quest guide page. For instance, if we check out "Woodsmoke" ... http://wiki.project1999.com/Special:MultiCategorySearch?wpInCategory1=Warrior Equipment&wpInCategory2=Fashion: Woodsmoke&wpInCategory3=Head ... we can see that both the Cowl of Mortality (custom and regular) and the Icepaw Skull Helm have that same tint.
But then, different items use their tint a different amount, so even an item with a black tint may look less black than you want: you really have to find a screenshot of someone wearing that item (or at least any item with the same fashion categories). And unfortunately no one has posted a screenshot of any armor in the Woodsmoke category yet :(
But if you play around with the multi-category search and the various black-like tints (or just click their links on the fashion quest guide page), you should find various equipment options.
Hope that helps.
P.S. Just to emphasize the importance of checking screenshots, here's a male dark elf wearing a "black"-tinted suit of armor (that's very blue):

Good call! The wiki doesn't have each individual fine plate item (which is part of why it didn't show up in the search), but Lucy does.
Strangely enough ... http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=23294 ... actually has a tint of ***this dark gray color.
Still, the helm would probably look black (given that that is the whole point of dyed plate) ... but with EQ fashion it's always a good idea to find a screenshot first to be safe.

Looks like black chain (trolls have horns). Cheap and solid choice

Nevermind, loramin already mentioned custom cowl. So this post isn't a waste of space, here's the link to that thread mentioning the change in color.

What about blackened alloy crown? It's chain, but chain looks cool. Lots of resists and str, reasonable AC too.

Yea same graphic as the one I linked or the giant scalemail helm. All chain graphic of the same tint. It’s a good recommendation and easy to track down.

Opoline Helm?
Exactly! I wear this on my bard when I need to up my FQ game.

Blackened Alloy Coif also looks fantastic on a troll, black chain. Trolls are the only class that have amazing chain helm graphic IMO.

That's because Tier Dal armor isn't supposed to be black. It's Black Rock, which despite the name is dark blue.

I don't want to remove it from your wiki page myself, maybe you are just going for "close to black", but to me it doesn't really belong here:

(A dark elf wearing black plate similar to chortles would be more approriate)

First of all, it's not my wiki page, so really your criteria should be "do I think this would make the page better for most people?". If it does (eg. if you don't think most people would consider the color black), who cares what Loramin thinks? :) I'll never be upset at anyone genuinely trying to make the wiki better, even if they're undoing my work.
Second, you actually found a bug here! Something must have gone wrong when I did the automated fashion categories, and half of the Tier'dal armor got given the "Black" category instead of the "Black Rock".
As you noted "Black Rock" isn't Black (and whoever added it to the FashionQuest Guide (http://wiki.project1999.com/FashionQuest Guide) correctly added it under the Blue tints). The only reason that screenshot was even on the black page was because of this category bug.
As an aside, you may be wondering: why is a dark blue tint called "Black Rock"? As it turns out, there were a lot of tints, and neither Verant nor Lucy, where I stole the data from, named them.
I didn't want to name the categories "Fashion: #FFFFFF", so I used a color-naming software library to name the colors. It did a pretty good job, all things considered ... but a few of its choices were less than great. Still, I couldn't find a better name for "#01012d" on the Internet ... the only other name I found was the just as bad "Black Russian" ... and "Black Rock Blue" sounded dumb to me ... so I kept "Black Rock" for now.
If anyone has a better name, and doesn't mind editing all the wiki pages in that category to fix it ... please see my first point!
For now, I fixed all the Dark Elf armor to be "Black Rock", and then moved that one screenshot to the "Black Rock" category. Nice catch!
It's too late for the topic creator but anyone who wants easiest black helmet to get quickly there's actually a very special black helmet that very few people know about in Oasis of Marr. The Goblins at the bottom of the water drop the opaline helmet. It's a pre lambent Quest item and it's obtainable quite early if you can get a mid-level person to kill some goblins
