View Full Version : Live still planning a p99 style TLP?
They said a while back they were planning to do a TLP with corpse runs, no map, XP loss, etc.
What ever happened to that? It seems to have disappeared from the interwebz.
I remember advocating for that stuff during their PoP-Locked servers, and people would tell me to "Go back to P99".
Anyone heard anything?

It would still have all the non-classic crap like defiant, OP battle stats, etc. from what I heard. Dunno if they are still planning it/

I don't remember them ever saying that. I kind of doubt they would since it would still need to include store items for revenue which would ruin the whole thing. And they have 'truebox' servers but they still allow boxing with multiple computers.
What's really interesting is if you watched the most recent Everquest Show on youtube, there is some pretty good evidence they are getting ready to release a new game in the EQ IP.

Mangler server was as close as they got and it was nothing like p99. Started in classic and now in Kunark, I think. The mechanics are not like p99 and, tbh, don't feel as polished. Weird that the emulated server feels like the more well produced product.

Agnarr was pretty close. Still a lot of unclassic things, but stuff like Manastone and guise dropped for a while. I think it is the closest thing to P99 Live has ever done. Honestly if the did a Luclin locked server I would play it in a heartbeat.

FTFY. You really don't want to play anything made by Daybreak. You just don't ;)
I will say though, if Daybreak could pay R&N for the rights to the P99 code (which would be awfully ironic) and then use that to build a classic Luclin server (or better yet, pay R&N to do it ... but I just can't see them wanting to take that project on) that would be amazing. More amazing if it went up to LoY.

It is really a testament to the blood sweat and tears that went into the P1999 when you compare it to live server TLP style servers. There are just too many things that have changed or they have lost or they don't care to attempt to recreate over there that dilutes the authentic experience.
Here, aside from the occasional "not classic!" notation or bug find, the only real differences is that this server has been preserved in era far, far longer than it ever was on live, creating some interesting nuances. And the game is 20 years old. No amount of developer effort can rewind the amount of knowledge of game design and structure out there today.
