There's a ton of helpful information in another thread in here started by a new player asking about tanking, but I didn't want to hijack a thread so please forgive me for making this one!

I'd really like discussion on playing a warrior from the start of Green, as a main. Some questions:
1.What kind of challenges would I face?
2.What kinds of frustrating things am I going to have to get used to?
3.What tips and advice do you guys have that I can use to deal with those challenges and frustrating things?
4.Can someone explain what everyone means when they say warriors turn into Demi-gods later in levels?
5.They also say that warriors do really good DPS once geared well. Compared to things like monks and rogues, what are we talking here?

These are just some off the top of my head, I'd love to hear about your experiences as well if you feel like sharing :)

You basically won't hold any aggro is about it for untwinked.

1. basically youll be the worst class in the game until later levels
2. lots of death, poor dps, poor aggro, ZERO SOLO ABILITY, no clutch or escape abilities or spells.
3. im glad you asked. dont go anywhere without SOW. dont take risks, dont be afraid to run if things are bad and youve got sow. Cant tell you how many times playing as a warrior I bit the dust because i was willing to let my group live and escape..... just run man. Stay close to ZL if you are in tricky fights. Basically you have to live your life very risk averse.
4. youll most likely never see this, but a well geared warrior with disciplines is a sight to behold. A BIS warrior is probably the most coveted class ever IMO.... just not worth the headache of getting there and frankly you probably dont have the dedication to get there anyway (most people dont)
5. not even close to rogue or monk, or basically any class for that matter. maybe at higher levels youll start to see good dps, but untwinked, youll really feel the patheticness of being a warrior.

TLDR Warrior got hosed in development. not sure if this was done on purpose or not, but its what happened.

Don't feel bad tho, any melee thats un-twinked will feel the same way. Great news is, its stupid easy to gear up (to medium at least) in P99. Solo in EC for 1-14, with free buffs and often free starter gear / weaps. 14-19 you can do lfay sisters (stack up your band aids) and probably walk out of there at the end with ~1k plat. Enough to basically buy a full crusty suit or SCHW.

Returning after 9 years. Are warriors not used as tanks here or is it too gear dependent to bother with? I soloed an Oger warrior to 33 last time I played reading this I'm not sure what to do with him.

Obsidian shard (pair) or one coupled with a polished granite tomahawk.

Mesh armour from gum is light and leather AC. Costs about 100-200 pp to skill up black smithing to brute force a full suit if you can't buy one.

Bull crusher if you are tiny.

Axe of the slayers from 30.

1. You would definitely struggle to hold aggro early on against all the melee twinks. But this won't matter too much as they will probably tank better than you anyways.
2. See above. Aside from that travel can be a pain as a warrior.
3. Group up. For the most part people won't care until you are 50+ and by then you should be set anyways.
4. I assume they are referring to the defensive discs. For about 3 minutes out of every 10, a warrior is a demi god.
5. Warriors are the baseline for melee dps. They have very solid white damage. They won't out dps rogues or monks in most situations though. If you aren't main tanking you can go beast mode with offensive discs for a short time. I believe warriors use precision for dps.

I've heard some people say that you shouldn't play a warrior unless you plan to tank raids. And I would have to mostly agree. If you want to tank, but don't really ever plan to raid then I would suggest a paladin or shadowknight.

If you want to play a warrior though, play a dang warrior all else be damned.

Keeping aggro is trivial if you are grouped with a character who can cast Root.

It sucks, but it is still fun. Most folks in groups are pretty understanding and chill about the trials and tribulations of warriors.

I'm confused whether this thread is for Green advice or not... Judging by OP I interpreted it that way, but looking at other respondents it seems I may have misread the gist behind the question...?

Join a great guild.

Classic era on green is going to suck. Level 50 cap is unkind to warriors. You won't get disciplines until Kunark. You're going to struggle to hold aggro even against rogues using tarnished weapons, and a lot of casters are going to be making the transition from twinked on blue groups to fresh groups on green, so are going to probably have issues with threat management and dumping mana on nukes until OOM while not having a clue and screaming at you for not being able to hold threat against their 500 point chain nukes.

You'll be using lackluster weapons like gnoll hide lariats and obsidian shards for threat until you can maybe get lucky and get some SSoYs. I did classic era here for the most part, and was able to quest all of my crafted armor, and got really lucky by getting a FBSS on my first ghoul camp. Weapons were a bit rougher. SSoYs were incredibly overpriced here for what they did.

Most warrior gear otherwise is going to be horrifyingly overpriced compared to other classes' gear. Skills will also be a mess for you, whereas equivalent monks are going to be skilling up steadily to 50. Expect to get a lot of mileage out of bronze, patchwork, and ringmail/banded.

Even Kunark isn't going to be that wonderful for a warrior on green unless you are in a higher end guild and get in on the ground floor of stuff before it is taken out, like Ringed Mace of Ykesha, Blade of the Black Dragon Eye, stuff like that. Will probably end up using Warclubs of Ykesha and the old Sarnak Warhammer/Silken Whip combo for a long time.

Topgunben hit it on the head really well. Can't take risks others can, and you'll be in zones for exp longer than other classes will when the exp gets kinda meh. Bind wounds at max is a must. Bandages all the time.

It gets better in Velious, but that's a long ways off on green.

Your big advantage will be no shared hybrid exp penalty compared to other tank classes and for the most part, people will generally be aware that warriors suck, so they typically will take pity on you.
