Want to start a Bard, thinking about doing it on Red instead of Blue. Is there still a community/economy here, or is it pretty much a graveyard and not worth playing?

there is 1 guild farming tov if thats your intention, the line for gear will be short

exp is faster, will take you a year to get 60 on blue or a week or two on red if you are good

My Ranger on Blue is 41 now. 40 was a pain but its been a pretty smoth ride so far, all depends on which levels from 50-60 are bad.

There is a small economy, but nothing like blue. You're more likely to have someone just give you gear than you are to find a buyer for bone chips and silks.

Get a money-making class up past 25 and farm HHK guards to 40. You’ll have enough of a nest egg that you’ll be able to start Tunnel-questing (again thru /ooc) some significant gains.

I'm not actively looking for handouts and won't go asking for them. If someone happens to notice me and flips a nickel at my feet, cool, I'd be rude to turn them down, but I'm no hobo rattling a tin can. I'll survive on rusty swords and cloth armor if I have to. Everyone did at one point, I did on my Ranger.

There is no economy on red but you can prob get to 50 in no time. I am not sure about you tho op you sound pretty new to a 19 year old game. You may enjoy actually playing with people and blue is definitely the better option there.

Not much to say, had a 30-something paladin a few years back, came on one day and it was stripped bare of all its loot, maybe 4k worth of stuff. My fault for trusting the wrong people, I suppose.

I know it's fun to shit on Red, and for good reason for the most part.

I'd say it's worth a try though, and I only say that because if nothing else it's a fast-as-fuck exp private server. Want to try a class for the first time? Get it to level 50 playing casually for 2 weeks and find out if you like it or not.

I thought Reds EXP rate was same as Blue, normal.

Higher population with pvp. Don't need to worry about getting banned for two boxing like most people do here.

The higher population just means more people in more places ready to kill you and destroy whatever it is you thought you were logging on to do! Fantastic.

I thought Reds EXP rate was same as Blue, normal.
Much faster on red. If I remember right, you get 50% exp bonus for each person you are getting exp with

so with a full group you gain multiple levels per session, easily

Thinking of giving red a try, any class needed more than others?
For just starting a good solo class might be the best option..
Other than necro what are your thoughts?
I was thinking bard or maybe even shadow knight for first go at red?

Enchanter / Necro / Mage for solo beginner. They require little gear to be extremely effective and you can camp a lot of shit with them.

Druid / Wiz for porting / quadding / farming

I would wait on a melee class, as they are much more gear dependant.

ToV is boring anyway. Nobody "needs" to do that content. The joy of the game is the journey. If someone is planning to start with a regular play group, then Red server is still the better option over Blue, because the exp bonus means you waste less of your life doing pointless grinding, and you won't be blocked from group content. The very occasional possibility of PvP that still exists is always a nice extra layer to the game too.

And there can definitely can be more than 1 guild, if people were to play, rather than just herding together to start doing the boring ToV shit again.

I wonder if the mods/community would consider allowing a naked character copy (oldschool transfer service - it's classic!) from Blue to Red for a community boost? You level slower on Blue, anyway, and if naked, it's not really broken.

Or maybe toss them 100 plat per 10 levels in the bank, then the rest neked (we don't want derpy people to pvp/group with - let them at least buy a ghetto weapon or something).

Then maybe permaboost that xp bonus we're having this weekend. It'll make up for asshats rooting naked transfers during a train with their 0 magic resist. Even with low pop, your luck decreases on Red - there's always "that 1 guy that shouldnt be there, but is".
