Hey all,

Haven't played in a couple years. Looking to make a return and roll a new toon and I'd like some class advice.

My play time is a bit sporadic so solo is pretty important but I also don't wanna be locked out of groups. I also can't see myself having time to dig into raiding at end game so that's less important.

From what I've read/remember best solo options are bard, shaman, enchanter, necromancer, wizard, mage, druid and monk.

Lot of options there so just wondering what you'd suggest for re-learning the game and just having some fun.

Thanks!

I am as casual as casual gets.. And i made an SK a while back who is now 37, and he is a great option you should consider! Totally has solo capabilities! And a blast to have in a group!! Plus having the Feign Death is a casual players saving grace. The amount of times i just have to FD and step away for 5min-all day happens extremely often haha.

BigJ is so right here -- any class with ability to FD is huge for casual playing. The *inability* to FD means you have to get to safe spot + log out anytime you need to step away (not the case w/ FD)

Mage, Druid, Necro.

I would add Hide actually.

You can't do it mid-fight like FD, but otherwise if you can Hide and confirm your Hide is working, you're pretty much 100% safe, baring a very few exceptional zones & mobs.

So if you're playing a Ranger, SK, Rogue, Bard... or any Wood Elf, Dark Elf and Halfling, I think it's a nice way to go AFK for long period of times.

Just a reminder on how to know if your hide worked or not (for non-Rogues)

1) /consider a mob before Hide, it should be anything other than indif. Now Hide and /con again, if it's indif now it worked.

2) no mobs around? Try casting one of your "Sense ____" spells, like Sense Undead or Sense Animal or Sense Summoned. Hopefully that will target a non-indif mob for you. Then go back to 1.

3) no mobs around? no spell? the only undead you could target with sense summoned was indif? you have a last way! make sure you have no see invis effect on you. Click Hide, your character should disappear from sight. Now make sure you have no target and then type "/target nagoya" replacing nagoya with your own cute name! and if targets you it means you are not hidden. If it can't target you, it is because you are hidden (apparently even from yourself!)

from that point, once hidden you can stay hidden ad vitam eternam, and you are safe from 99.99% of the mobs, and even 100% of them in most zones.

Well I could put the trash into a landfill where it's going to stay for millions of years, or I could burn it up, get a nice smokey smell in here and let that smoke go into the sky where it turns into stars.

I actually hadn't considered feign death or an SK for that matter. I seem to remember hide not working that well but that may have just been at low levels when I was bad at it.

Mage, Druid, Necro.

In that order?

In that order?

I'd go Druid/Necro/Mage. Necro for sure has the tools to be casual. Once again- FD. However.. Druid to me is always the go to first character choice.. The quality of life spells they have is just too good. And they have numerous ways to exp.. Quad, Charm and Fear Kite, Root Rotting, Groups.. So many options. And with the porting, you can always just port out if you gotta log, and just port back later..

Also gives you the option to easily and mindlessly make money with ports and power levels and what not!

However Dino is dope, so whatever order he reports back on, i support.

That doesn't sound right, but I don't know enough about stars to dispute it

Mac's answer to that might be better than Charlie's statement itself LMAO

Oooh thanks so much for these tips! Two of my three characters have the ability to Hide but I barely ever use it. Probably because I never really looked into how to make sure it worked lol. Gonna give these tips a try. :D

Want to be able to casually solo anywhere and still be viable in groups and actually get that invite with the button that “says” follow without having to work hard for it?
If you want melee: Monk
If you want caster: necro
Race: iksar

Necro 100%

I love playing my druid. Lots of my playtime is solo and having the ability to both solo in many different forms as well as get almost anywhere in the world very quickly is very handy. The little bit of time I do get to play isn't wasted moving about, which is pretty important in a game like this.

Necro and monk are both great for your situation due to being able to FD and afk forever. Depending on your available funds, necro can be played naked to 60. Monk is more gear dependant, but you can totally rock a 500p-1k set of gear from 1-50 no problem. Mend is OP once you skill it up enough that it no longer has a chance to hurt you.

Also, as wallicker said, iksar if the class can be iksar. Racial regen is the tits.

Thanks everybody. Some really good advice here. Really appreciate all the help.

I've narrowed it down to the following:

1. Started an Iksar Monk
2. Continue my Wood Elf Druid I started way back when I first tried P99. He's currently level 27
3. Wood Elf Ranger (I just like the aesthetic of rangers so I'm gonna see if they really are the hard mode everybody talks about)

Turns out I have some pretty decent tank gear as well so I'll likely try a tank out at some point just to check it out.

Much appreciated.

RE: YOUR THREAD

Dear Zer,

It has come to my attention that you have solicited inputs from the Project 1999® Forum Sub-Community. Firstly, let me thank you for your interest in our Inputs®. They are of the finest quality. Secondly, I regret to inform you that YOUR DOING IT WRONGly.

To put it in plain terms, your conclusions are bunk. First (second first), rangers are not hard mode; you have confused hardmode with WEAKMODE. Under no circumstance should you play a ranger. This recommendation is in line with the very valuabble Inputs® we have given hi therto.

Second, the very obvious oversight in your thread here (https://www.project1999.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=2913317) is the very important matter of *RACE.* There is no doubt that you should play a dwarf. Class consideration is a very distant fifth behind this, regional liquor selections, number of active ooc venues, proximity to abusable newby experience quests, and beards.

Thirdly, lizards are disgusting creatures and the Druidic embrace of nature CROSSES LINES.

Please reconsider your selections and let us know if you require any additional Inputs®.

Sincerely,

a dwarf

P.S. Should you elect to disregard this kind advice, I challenge you to FITE ME IRL!

If your Druid is 27 I’d at least play up to 29/34. It’s not far away and porting is a cool thing to be able to do.
