What's the deal with pickpocketing items? I've been picking the orcs in EC for hours and have literally never picked an item from them, only coin. I'm currently 140 skill. Very confused...

Thanks for your help.

There is only a tiny handful of items you can pickpocket.

You cannot pickpocket magic items, nor can you pick up anything it is using (weapons and armour) and so it's mostly gems and research items in my experience.

One thing you can sometimes steal (despite how insane it sounds) is bodyparts. Stuck in High-Hold Keep with no other players around, I used to pick the goblin's pockets to steal their ears. That was back when the ears were worth a fair amount of coin too.

Given how easy it is to steal certain quest items and gems though, the polite thing to do is to kill the mobs you steal from. Even if you have to train them to a guard, you do not want to be the only rogue in the zone when people start to realise the mobs are not dropping coins or items.

Ahh, gotcha. Explains why I couldn't pickpocket any of the items from the orcs, if they were using them. Thanks for the clarification.

You can pickpocket gems and when you start working on your epic you will have to steal too. Too bad theres an emote for npcs when you get caught...

Could be worse, my DE cleric trashed her Indigo Brotherhood faction by levelling (ever so briefly) in Crushbone, only to discover that she now couldn't hand in her last Symbol of Innoruuk quest without help.

Faction gets interesting in this game...

In 3rd person view, you can open a trade box from further away or from around a corner and it's usually far enough away to be outside of aggro range, then as a dark elf, while the trade box is open you can hide to make yourself indifferent for the hand in. Just be sure to make sure the trade box is open before you hide and make sure you're hidden by considering the mob before you click trade.

Rogues should be kos to everyone imo. Dark elf rogues get the most entertaining starting factions. There’s nothing that you can’t bypass with your skills, so there’s no reason to be friends with everyone.
