View Full Version : Rogue Epic is Easy?

Hello all,

I rolled my first and only rogue in 18 years of playing EQ. What a fool I am for not having played one sooner. I'm enjoying myself a whole lot. So, I've completed other class epics and have decided to look up Rogue epic quest. I expect to hit 50 in another week or two. Is it truly as easy as it looks?

It seems there is a pickpocket time sink, and then only two npc kills? If questing yourself you must be level 50 minimum to complete, I understood that. I intend to join a mid-range raid guild when it comes time to do the fights. The two fights are some of the simplest I'm familiar with..

Anywho, I was planning to pay for an MQ but I have always enjoyed questing epic quests myself. I will certainly save myself the plat if this quest truly is as easy as it looks. Any insight?

Thank you

It is certainly the easiest of all epics to complete. If you play a decent amount and are in a guild that goes up to Hate, don't buy it.

I completed it with my main, which is a Rogue, so I had very little cash to invest towards it.

I did it back in the day where it was perma-camped as everyone and their grandmother bought an epic for their level 1 Rogue.

Pickpocketing Tani N`Mar in Neriak is a guaranteed death(s) unless you exploit it, and even then it's incredibly risky without SoW.

Pickpocketing the Dwarf in Kaladim isn't as hard (it just takes forever). It feels like his is more rare. Also, it seemed like people camped him more.

The book is not too bad in Hate, however, your guild will most likely say "Go get your book!", not realizing there are a ton of mobs who see through invis in Hate. They expect it's a happy little stroll up to your book. It's not.

Killing Renux is easy as hell, looking for Yendar is the hard part. Another perma-camped spot. But I asked a random 60 Druid to help me kill Renux. We duoed her easy.

Spawning and killing General V`Ghera is not too bad, just have to get a good raid force to like you enough to help.

Hope to god that he drops Cazic's Quill or else you'll probably have to MQ the Robe of the Kedge, which is a pain to get.

If no quill redo and sell loot rights on second general and hope for quill of the second attempt?

The pickpocketing parts can be annoying as dino says because it's hard to find a rez in city zones sometimes. Plan on possibly eating deaths. Also, pickpocket these at a lower level so it doesn't hurt so much in the case that you DO need to eat a death.

Wouldn't the person you sold the loot rights too also be expecting a quill, or does the encounter drop gear as well? If so, that might be a decent idea.

Great idea. I'm going to skill up a bit now and start with the neriak note. Bound there atm.

Thanks all! I think I'll quest instead of purchase.

One of the dark elves near General in Kith can drop kedge robe. The Coercer I think? It's kinda farmable that way if you don't get the quill drop.

You probably already have it, but make sure to use your Dark Elf mask.

Coercer and Advisor are the two dark elves in Kith that drop the robe.

I think the last rogue epic I did start to finish, including getting the book from hate, took a little over two hours.

You got extremely lucky then.

Took me a week of camping the dwarf to pickpocket.

8 hours to wait for Erudite NPC to spawn.

And getting Yendar took me like a month.

I guess it's super easy now that people aren't farming it anymore.

I was probably one of the people keeping it down. Sorry not sorry. Rogue epic is cake.

I got mine, so I don't mind. But at the time I was a tiny bit bitter.

I got my pages relatively easy yesterday. I did not understand that if after the first couple pick pockets you don't get the page, the npc doesn't have it. You've got to wait for it to despawn and respawn. Wasted some time there. Heads-up anyone unfamiliar and about to begin rogue epic. I was 170 pickpocket skill, but you can do it with 1 skill. It may take many more attempts, however. Pickpocket is easy to skill up, it just may take a couple hours.

Not looking forward to the PoHate book step. Maybe I'll get lucky. It seems as though you can't camp it unless you never log off as once you drop sneak, you're dead.

Question... Why does the wiki guide firmly warn not to attempt to grab the book and WC cap out? It warns of certain death, but doesn't explain how. WC cap is instant cast... How could you possibly die in less than an instant?

I do understand you need to go up with a raid (possibly just a great group) to have a chance to get to the book. Why shouldn't I grab the book and insta gate out?

That's how I'd do it now, tbh. When I originally did mine I didn't have the extra cash to pay for a cap though.

Thanks... Yea the wiki didn't bother to explain why not to. I've wracked my brain and couldn't determine why it wouldn't work just fine to cap out.

There can be a split-second delay between "Loading, Please Wait..." and your character actually leaving the zone on the server itself. It can lead to some irritating deaths but you should be fine if you're using it while still agro-free.

Camp or buy a Shiny Brass Idol (https://wiki.project1999.com/Shiny_Brass_Idol) and a WC cap. Head over to East Commons and find a cleric willing to res you from a duel death. Put the Idol in your primary, and the WC cap in your open inventory. Get rekt via duel and get a res. Only loot the WC cap and Idol from your corpse. You are now ready to head to Hateplane. If you get close to the book and get seen, you can DA through the mess and not have to get ported back. If you die, all your gear is in the tunnel.

There are mobs that see through sneak/hide and they can aggro through walls. You can make it, but doing it without any aggro if it's a full spawn is gonna be unlikely unless you know the route and what to watch out for. Duane's suggestion is an excellent strat if you want to yolo it.

I don't think I've watched that since it happened... even better now. I like when Tricket starts asking "What should I do?"

I got my Hate book after camping beside the table at a raid where I lost the roll for it. I just logged back in 8 hours later, grabbed it, and hatted out without issue. I think I had one mob smacking me when I hatted, but I didn't get low HP. You gotta be fast, so have the cap on a hotkey.

For pickpocketing the DE in Neriak, I suggest doing the following: create a level 1 necro, give it a stack of bone chips and enough plat to buy the level 1 pet, then have a friend create a dark elf to keep the guild master locked down with hails. Summon the pet and have it guard beside the pickpocket mob, then run to the zone line and have it attack the pickpocket NPC to train his whole room to the zone line. Zone out just in time while your friend chain-hails the guy, giving you time to switch to your rogue. Sneak up behind, pickpocket, and run to the ZL, preferably with SoW (and aego, etc) because he may backstab if you have aggro. Keep in mind you may need multiple attempts to get the item.

Thank you, but after eight deaths I discovered the roof z axis trick. I just kept sow and de mask up and ran to zone if I agroed. Pretty simple if you have these items.
