Hi all.
I have about 210-245 worn AC in items (depending on if using a shield) and 2306 unbuffed hps. Super sad but have been trying to gear on a budget towards ac vs hps as I've been leveling. Schedule doesn't allow raiding at the moment so it's just filthy-casual solo and some pickup groups.
Have enough for a 34k haste belt (like spiked seahorse) or might save up for a fungi. I guess I could dump the money into HP/AC items too. Mostly thinking from a grind-group tank perspective what would make the largest difference.
I have a mid-50's ranger who won't be getting a Swiftwind so being able to transfer the items over in a pinch is tempting if I hit 60 with the pally and get bored.
Tl;Dr
Group oriented gearing...
1.) AC/Hps
2.) Haste
3.) save for fungi.
Thanks!
What's your current haste? Two bracers of benevolence which are free and require nothing more than showing up to the spawn would be great ac and hp for you with solid svs as well. Clawed guardian shield is a great ac item though prob still overpriced. Fungi always best decision, especially if you have additional alts that can take advantage.

CoCW you can get for under 30k probably, and a https://wiki.project1999.com/Deepwater_Helm
Would help with solo if you don’t have one

Nothing is particularly sad about those stat totals. My paladin has roughly the same ac/hp and that's with a few pieces of Velious raid gear tacked on. With self buffs, that places her slightly above 1100ac and 3000hp--more than enough to withstand the brunt of damage in group content. So whatever your paladin has equipped, they can't be hurting too much as the MA.
Personally, I would save for a fungi and then resell it once I had enough combined funds for a crown of narandi, and then group at Seb king for another fungi afterwards.
A deepwater breastplate would be the other, less expensive option, but one that's more ideal for soloing/duoing. That said, it still can be used in groups; so long as you aren't the one pulling, you can sneak in a click or two while mobs are still incoming. Clerics usually want their beefier symbol on you, but Pinzarn is still useful for off-healing the enchanter/bard/etc. Also, sometimes a (combination of) shaman/necro is healing, so you can keep yourself buffed and feed them hp to decrease downtime with it. At 15 plat a stack though, jaspers could start to eat into savings for other upgrades unless you win a few rolls.
Either way, now that Velious has been out for a while, the majority of players are substantially overgeared for Norrath. What kills us more than anything is our own xp greed--pulling more than we should, with respawns due--or being trained...and, even then, it's easy enough for tanks to survive and reestablish presence at a camp.
Paladins are already resilient as is, but with shawl, crown, fungi, dw bp, and jeldorin...near death would require a perfect storm and even then you would still have lay on hands and divine aura. The class is packed with safeguards so bolstering those innate abilities would take the platinum farther than if you tried to compensate for where the class is lacking, imo. Haste is great, but it's much better on other classes--shadow knights included due to their method of soloing versus a paladin's.
With divine purpose and fungi tunic you would have 23hp regenerating per tick.
With a crown of narandi, the mana drain from divine purpose would be mostly offset. With crown and coldain shawl, it would be completely offset.
TL;DR Mana or health regen, if you can afford either. If not, perhaps upgrade hp clicky from dw helm to bp.

Thanks everyone! Here is my gear list. There are some eyesores I can fix quite cheaply (boots, ranged, neck, etc). Also a number of no-hp slots comparable buyables can replace (Silver chit arms/bracers).
Mostly curious if a fungi will make for a better group tank. Ennewi touched on this (thanks!). For solo mid 50’s I’m wondering if haste > regen. It cuts down on downtime for sure but per fight when you are getting hit for 90+ constantly maybe quick kills is more ideal. Group settings I can see how it would give some relief to a healer in mob dps reduced via regen.
All interesting. Thanks again :)

I set one up a while back but couldn’t log in to tweak it. One more thing to work on :)

That I don't know for certain as I never parse, but my overall impression is that regen has been more of a contributing factor in groups and out soloing.
Outside of weapons with more substantial procs, like yours and mine, the melee damage of paladins typically seems to go unnoticed by all in group except enchanters who will ask if you want boon for those fancy proc explosions to go off. Still, the general perception of knights is that they're somewhere between bards and rangers in terms of melee damage output--the former doesn't even bother with worn haste and the latter strives to get their hands on all the haste they can, sky cloak being the epitome of that struggle. Being in that gray area presents a quandary for knights on a budget. Once the two-hand damage bonus has been implemented though...

Thanks Ennewi :)
I’m saving up for the fungi. The liquidity and twink-fun-factor makes it hard not to try. The DPS thing for solo or groups doesn’t make sense as you put.
Finally fixed up my Magelo. Thanks for the push, Loramin. :)

Regen on fungi makes it the best tanking BP in the game 99% of the time. It works out to 2.5 regen per second. Group xp mobs tend to average 15-30dps unslowed on my paladin and considerably less when slow.
Fungi, therefore, ends up functionally decreasing the healing you need by a huge amount. In some cases it can reduce needed healing over time by 25% or more. No other BP in the game can come close to this.
In raids with a complete heal chain it’s a wash. In all other situations it makes you a much more efficient tank.

Agree with all of this, except it's quite possibly one of the worst FQ pieces out there. Decided to roll iksar as my next race to try and balance out not having this.

Agreed. I’ll be getting a thurgadin bp on my paladin eventually for a matching set (FQ). The stats on it will be nice and if I’m honest the extra healing (150 a minute) should never make or break a 50+ healer’s ability to do their job. Mathematically though, the velious quest bp is inferior to fungi.
I will say that I’m looking forward to putting the fungi back on my monk. Extra regen when pulling, fighting and FD is gold.
