See you boys in 2021-2022

Q: What is your vision for Player vs Player Servers in Pantheon?

A: Alternate Ruleset Servers, as we like to call them, include PvP servers, role-playing (RP) servers, possibly even veteran servers and a variety of other variations on the theme. We will launch with at least one PvP server, and the ruleset will likely be free-for-all. But our plan hardly stops there. As the game grows in popularity, we want to offer a variety of these Alternate Ruleset Serves and that would include different types of PvP servers. Race wars, the ability to take and hold territory, and many other ideas are all in the Grand Vision — we just need to reach that point. And that’s done by launching with a solid foundation, in this case a strong PvE foundation upon which we can build variations of PvP, RP, etc.

Interesting that people think this game won't be an absolute failure, or a con to pay the bills for the next ten years until the next con.

Ugh, do not do "controllable territory". Those kind of mechanics have no place in an "EQ like world". They still don't get it. Just build a world and enable PVP. Its more fun to fight over resources and claim territory by dominating it and with notoriety and simply knowing who controls it. You don't need, and shouldn't have, artificial "cap points" and stupid stuff like that.

I can't wait for release so the lot of you trolls can take off for a month, then come back with comments like:
"It's a shit box."
"I got banned by neckbeards."
"They don't know what PvP is."
"To many hacks."

Blah, blah, blah. Nothing but joy.

If Pantheon ever comes out I would be willing to bet it goes free to play after the first year and is filled with microtransactions to further support development and maintenance as explained by Brad McQuaid himself.

Swish2
03-03-2019, 04:35 AM
How many monthly subs would it need to keep itself running? I think it'll do well... but they won't be able to be like Blizzard with endless staff, customer support, etc.

In fact I'd be willing to bet Brad can find volunteers to do the GM work for him.

If it fails, I hope they either release the source code or it gets leaked so some devs here/elsewhere can have a crack at making it good later on.

Classic EQ was a lucky shot, nothing else. Everything after classic made the game worse.

It is insane to think that someone that got a lucky shot 20 years ago and has only made crap since will somehow reinvent EQ.

derpcake2
03-03-2019, 08:18 AM
Everyone that played classic on live knows "the vision" was absolute garbage.

Fear kiting and feign death pulling were unintended mechanics. Devs had no clue it was possible, they simply hadn't accounted for it.

They made something they didn't understand and somehow it was great. They tried to expand on it and ruined it.

Also, ludes.

I don't think The Vision (tm) was garbage. It was a set of general guidelines, a kind of philosophy that Smedley (and McQuaid to an extent I suppose) had established for the game.

It is also what made EQ great and different from everything else, and it is also why we're here playing it 20 years later - interdependence of classes, travel should be long or tedious or dangerous, death should have a harsh penalty associated with it, etc etc etc.

If Pantheon is made with a similar vision, it might very well be the game we've been all hoping for.

If I was to really bet on it I would say that the game as I’ve seen it so far will enjoy a small amount of popularity for a few months to a year before the population drops quite a bit. I just don’t think that MMOs are that popular anymore.

Pantheon would have to do something very different to grab and keep players interested. I want them to be successful, but I don’t see it being a likely outcome.

I tried it once. My MMO failed and was cancelled, then my wife took the kids, the pets and left me. I am a broken mess and decided to live my life in Norrath for the remainder of my time on this hellish planet.

The whole plan of visionary realms is aimed at making a niche product for People enjoying an EQ like gameplay. I hope they get something playable out and hope it's sustainable with subscriptions. However I don't expect masses of servers with alternate rulesets. They should be happy with two to three PvE servers and one PvP Server. The rest is just to hype you up so in the end he can claim: "Well, we never reached that point."

I can say that Pantheon is the next EQ it is a mix of EQ and vanguard. The only wildcard is whether or not they can build the world on time. If they don't reach regular alpha this year a lot of people speculating on this game might start to panic.

The bergering to make sure there wasnt a PVP server on Pantheon was more than epic. If u didn't pay into the cool kids discord you missed it. It worse even worse than the staff here refusing to play here with item loot (Arzak was a top cringer paladin).

But yeah controlling camps and raid mobs is enough - we don't need or want anything that will delay launch.
