Does not appear to impact the actual tailoring process. Response after creation. "ERROR: String not found. (8053)" Assuming this is a problem displaying "You have created something new". Minor, but wanted to report it.

Hi

Since the patch today, I updated the files from the posted link.

Logged back in fine but tradeskills giving an odd result. When clicking Combine I got the created item returned to me then two lines:

You can no longer advance your skill from making this item
ERROR: String not found. (8053)

It happened with both Tailoring and Alchemy. Logged out and restarted game. Same error.

Thanks

Getting "Error: String not found (8053)" message instead of the usual success message, while brewing Tumpy Tonics.

Can confirm this also occurs with Handmade Backpacks.
Safe to assume it's a global crafting bug, rather than individual item?

Also received this message on successful tinkering combines, telescopic eyepatch. I did not get the message on a fail.

Ditto! Working on low-level tailoring and cooking and having the same issue on both. Something just got left out somewhere, I'm sure. At least crafting still works!

Same thing here. Error on success for Class 2 Steel Silver Tip. Small Nocks, Parabolic Fletchings, Steel Shaft, Silver Tip.

Same error message. Combine returns the proper arrows and nothing seems broken but the result message.

While making silk swatches and raw silk items I get the following error:

Happens always after the cannot advance your skill any further message, but also following some other tailoring messages. Sometimes after you lacked the skills...

Thanks for everything you do :)

I'm getting it with Jewelcrafting too. I think it's preventing skillups since I can't seem to get one and my INT is off the charts. Stuck at 146.

Log file:

[Sun Feb 24 10:08:53 2019] Key Master says 'Hi there Baylan, just browsing? Have you seen the Velium Long Sword I just got in?'
[Sun Feb 24 10:08:56 2019] Key Master tells you, 'That'll be 20 platinum 1 gold 5 silver 9 copper per Mana Battery - Class Two.'
[Sun Feb 24 10:08:59 2019] You give 20 platinum 1 gold 5 silver 9 copper to Key Master.
[Sun Feb 24 10:09:10 2019] ERROR: String not found. (8053)

The error string in the above logs occurred when I successfully recharged the Earring of Displacement (enchanter Sky Piece) using a Mana Battery - Class Two. I understand others have had similar issues related to combines returning error strings. I imagine this is the same issue, and am hopeful this report will help identify the coding issue.

I receive "ERROR: String not found. (8053)" when trying to use tradeskills. There is no impact as I still receive the item but the message probably shouldn't show up.

In my particular case, I was in Thurgadin doing the final combine for Vial of Velium Vapors (the one with the container) and I got the message. I later on tried to use the Forge to breakdown Velium Blocks to smaller pieces and would continue to see the message.

Let me know if further information is needed.

1x shadow wolf pelt
1x scroll of gather shadows
1x silk swatch

Correct materials, three attempts, two on looms and a third using a large sewing kit.

ERROR: String not Found. (8053)

Skuc

My bad, combine *did* work in sewing kit, but it gave same error as with the looms, which ate the mats. I did think it was odd I was returned my silk swatch but not the other mats...it was the shadow silk, not my silk swatch back, they look the same =P

Sorry for the derp. I suppose shadow silk isnt meant to be combined in a loom? /shrug

Theres about 20 reports on this already

The "You successfully combined items to make something new" string is missing. So its all tradeskills and nothing is negatively impacted

Skuc
03-11-2019, 03:03 PM
Okay good but the combine definitely did not work in the looms, so that might need to be added to the appropriate area, wiki, w/e. You know I don't actually care personally, just hope to be helpful in brief <3

I went and got the materials (shadow wolf skin, silk swatch, spell: gather shadows). Went to East Freeport and put them in the Loom and it created a Shadow Silk with no problems

Even at trivial, there is a 5% chance to fail and lose the materials. Possibly just really bad RNG

Skuc
03-15-2019, 04:26 PM
It gave the trivial message, not the fail on the second attempt, I admit I wasn't paying attention on the first.

On tradeskilling, got to 30 alchemy skill and it paused beyond that not giving me any skill up even when i went and made 2 sets of trivial 54 kilva's blistering skin potions.

it was giving me a msg of success before skill 30, at 30 it started only saying white text:

"you lacked the skills to fashion the items together "

or

"ERROR: String not found (8053)

the only msgs i am able to see at all after this. There is amyth going around that you receive skill ups regardless of his msg, however upon spending 3k plat to test this theory i can almost safely assume skill ups are broken on alchemy right now.

Please look into this coding error.

Thank you staff

Kavious

Its not a coding error. Just a string missing from a text file

Also this has been posted atleast 20+ times already

Rygar
03-26-2019, 10:19 PM
He's saying he isn't gaining skill ups on non trivial combines. If Alchemy is coded to only skill up on success for whatever reason, it's possible the exception error may cancel the routine (which may proceed to dice roll for skill ups).

What is your wisdom and level? What was the exact number of combines? Possible you may have been bugged and needed to zone like four language skill ups too.

Post from log file if possible.

Kavious

Saw the title and the mention of the text string texts and thought it was just about that and missed the skill up part

Alchemy is level based. At level 25 the max skill is 5 and it goes up 5 pts with each level after that

Would be important to know what level OP is. At level 30, the max alchemy skill is also 30 and would need to level up more in order to skill higher

FIX for this Error Message:

Open the file eqstr_us.txt with a text editor
Insert the line for 8053 at the proper position.

8034 Usable
8053 You have created something new.

The 8053 String Not Found message is only for the success message, and doesn't affect combine chances. It is the success message. I think it used to be "You have combined these items to make something new."

Just edit eqstr_us.txt with a non-insane text editor (Notepad does not count as non-insane; Notepad++ is fine.)

This system was implemented so you could translate EQ into different languages - just load the text file of the language you're using and BAM, all the messages in your native language. The text can be anything you want. You can do this, for example:

8053 You did it!

Oh, boy. I wish I paid attention to this warning. I opened with Notepad and hosed my client - ended up breaking every string in the game.

I then downloaded Visual Studio Code and discovered the file got converted from UTF-8 to UTF-8 with BOM. I have no idea what BOM is, but converting it back to standard UTF-8 encoding fixed the issue and now I have my strings back, including the crafting success string!

I then downloaded Visual Studio Code and discovered the file got converted from UTF-8 to UTF-8 with BOM. I have no idea what BOM is, but converting it back to standard UTF-8 encoding fixed the issue and now I have my strings back, including the crafting success string!

BOM is the UTF "byte order mark" - this is used in other UTF versions (UTF-16, UTF-32) to tell programs reading this file which way the bytes go, as most files are read a byte at a time, but you need more than one byte to determine a character. Basically - is it BA or AB? ABCD or DCBA? That's what a BOM is for.

However, in UTF-8, this is pretty much pointless - because in UTF-8, the general size of a character is one byte, so there's no order required. It basically is only useful to say "HEY, THIS FILE IS UTF-8!" and is generally regarded as superfluous.

Older software, like EQ, will choke and die on the BOM. UTF text wasn't big in Windows at this time - most of the time you'd have files in one or more code-pages - Windows-1252 being the dominant one for English text in the US. (For giggles: ASCII, UTF-8 and Windows-1252 are generally seen as compatible, but certain characters will be all sorts of broken if you don't properly translate from one to the other. "Smart quotes" are the most common points of breakage.)

I'm not surprised EQ never accounted for people mucking with the interface text files. They're controlled by the server and would have been updated / checksummed by the patcher, so it doesn't surprise me that no engineering effort was expended in making sure EQ could handle a text file in a different format than what was expected.

If I had $10 for every time I had a BOM cause a bomb at my old job (I did a lot of syndication of news articles), I'd have eaten lunch for free most days.

VincentH

looks like the intended text string is 339. Not sure why the server is sending out 8053 instead. Easy fix server side :P

Infernoman
10-12-2019, 12:13 PM
Caused because line 8053 is missing in the file eqstr_us.txt.
open the your text editor. If you use notepad and windows 10, run notepad as administrator so you can save your changes
in the file, look for line 8034 Usable
add the following line after line 8034
8053 You have crafted something new.

do a file>save as and save the file. Make sure the encoding is set to ANSI. save the file and launch EQ as normal. test the crafting and it should be good now.
