And I keep thinking a real serious recruitment drive outside of project9999 targeted at newblood who are not embittered by pixel lust and cheaty behaviors yet could bump the pop back up to 120 on primetimes and rustle some jimmies.
yalll should troll some discords for like wow or w/e

Mother, why does this Erudite not allow me to subjugate it? Is that a man playing a female character? Lord, What hath God wrought?!

Mike Pence would definitely play a Wizard. With all the shock attacks and whatnot.

He'd probably want to play a Tunarean High Elf Cleric.
Edit: I do like the idea of him using lightning to "reform" the sodomites he encounters, though.

Even if this got 100 additional players they would quit the moment people would PvP their raids etc. as ex-vets would come back JUST to PvP them.
Only reason why red99 isnt 20 pop at peak at present is because there is 0 PvP on this server and 0 threat of it so the current stock of "fresh players" (all 15-20 of them) are in a safe space atm.
The type of person who plays this server at present are people looking to skip queues on blue and are happy to do so with 30 other people; and a bunch of crazy (legitimate nutters and social outcasts) vets who can't give up on their 8 years of life invested into red99 - and 90% (so 18/20 remaining vets) of those weren't playing Red99 for PvP in the first place so the safespace that is red99 suits them perfectly.
TLDR:
Even if Red99 got some population back it would die when people would return to PvP them. Red99 is a safespace for very ordinary skilled EQ players looking to login and feel entitled to open camps 24/7 and hi-fives as they snort/lick/chew/and inject some form of opiate and vegetate for x-hours not talking to anyone farming some mid-tier EQ item in a zone with only them in it.
P.s. Just an honest reply bro.

This is only a dozen players on the box. The rest are casual-hardcore eq players who are interested in legitimate pvp experiences and have fun being engaged in pvp by level appropriate pvp players without BiS/ToV/bullshit velious drops lol
Do you log in and play or simply speculate as to the current populations inclinations?
The rest of the assessment re: a private box private zones is on point but just a benefit of low pop not really many players' desire or intentions. Describing the world as it is then blaming the people in it for making the most of it is illogical at best.

I think there are several types of people who are now playing Red:
People who like empty zones to play in or enjoy soloing.
People who like the accelerated XP gains.
People who like the mostly drama free global /ooc.
People who want some PvP in their lives and are looking to find it here.
People who have been here for a long time and are invested in either their pixel blessed characters, helping others enjoy the game, or maintaining their position at the top by maintaining their control over access to top end gear.
If we can find more people who enjoy an emptier server, who avoid /ooc trolling, and don't mind the risk of PvP and may want to try it, *and* we have present players who are willing to help them get gear by contributing to the lower level economy, create alts to groups with them, and avoid /ooc trolling, we may grow.
I still think that if Red can have 10% of Blue's population, we are right where we should be.

The server was fun in kunark with like 150 pop.
I think with velious it probably needs a stable 225.
Arbitrary #s, but #s none the less.
Ironically if the level gap between expansions where bigger, you could have closer to 3 pvp ranges with three servers coexisting, say if later expansion clicky items wouldn't work on dlvld pcs. Custom content is terrible though. Just a random thought.
