Password Recoveries

We are frequently being asked by players for help in recovering passwords to their accounts. Unfortunately, we do not help recover passwords outside of the mechanics that are already in place. There are a number of reasons we do not assist players, ranging from inconsistencies proving ownership, to making sure that we do not provide a service to one player that we can't provide to the next.

This post will cover the mechanics that are available for self-recovery.

First, there are two different accounts to be aware of:

Loginserver Accounts are the accounts that you use to log into the game with. You enter this just prior to the server selection screen.
Forum Accounts are the accounts that you use to log into the forums and website here.

These are two different usernames and passwords. While they could have been created with the same username/password, they are still separate accounts.

When speaking about Forum Accounts, this could be either a Project 1999 Forum Account, or an EQEmulator Forum Account.

Loginserver Accounts can only be managed by logging into the Forum Account that created it. This could be either a Project 1999 Forum Account, an EQEmulator Forum Account, or both only if the accounts had been Linked. If the accounts are not Linked, you can only manage the Loginserver Accounts by logging into the website that they were originally created on, using the account they were created under.

So the first step in regaining access to your Loginserver Account will be to log into the associated Forum Account. If you do not remember your Username and/or Password for this, the only way to recover is by requesting an email. You must know the email address associated with the account.

Once you have regained access to your Forum Account, you can then work on recovering Loginserver Accounts. On the Home page of either Website, on the left side you will see the options for Account System.

If you know the current password of a Loginserver Account and merely want to change it, then select the Change Password option.
If you do not know the current password of a Loginserver Account, then you will need to Reset the password using the SMS System.

If you have not already, this will require attaching an SMS Number to the Forum Account. Select SMS Verification on the left and proceed through the pages. If you do not verify the SMS Verification Code that is sent, the SMS Number will not become active on the account. Once you successfully verify the SMS Number, there will be an email sent to verify the account. If you do not have access to the email address anymore, the SMS Number will automatically become active after 7 days. If you have access and can click the verification link, your SMS Number will become active immediately.

Once the SMS Number is activated, you can then proceed with resetting your passwords. This will reset ALL Loginserver Account passwords to the same password provided. After that, you can then individually change each Loginserver Account using the Change Password option.


Frequently Asked Questions:

I am locked out of the Forum Account and do not remember or have access to the Email Address it is under.
There is currently no way to proceed past this.

I am able to access the Forum Account, but no longer have access to the SMS Number that is attached to the Forum Account.

I can prove that I'm the original owner of my account(s). Can I post a Petition Thread for help recovering access?
No. You may be able to prove that you are the owner, but there is no Standard by which we can set for successfully proving that which can be universally applied. We do not collect enough information at the account creation process to feel confident in any verification process. Furthermore, we cannot selectively choose who to help based on varying degrees of evidence. Therefore, we do not help outside of the mechanisms already provided above.

Looking for some help as have tried to login after many months of not playing, I've registered my account for following the guide for linking my EQEmulator account and verifyied my sms number.

I am at the point where I can log onto P99 but cannot remember my password, I used the reset password and got the sms message and put in a new password but got error invalid handle.

how when I try again I do not get a sms so am unable to reset it.

Hello! After switching my password back and forth today in order to let a friend onto my account, my new password stopped working all together. When trying to set up the SMS verification for the account it says that my phone number is blacklisted from too many failed attempts - I entered a friends phone number too, which was also rejected. What am I supposed to do in this case?

When SMS verifying I get error messages, so after reloading the page and trying numerous times, it blacklisted my number - and 3 other numbers I tried. What can I do to fix this? The accounts are linked from eqemu and this P1999 forum name. Halp!

You must not use the numeric keypad, but the numbers above the letters,

Forum account and game accounts are not the same. Game accounts can be managed by the forum account they were created under

Ive managed to get my password for the forums up and running, and i believe my Loginserver account is correct as i was able to perform a password change successfully. however when i do try to log in thru the client i get a DB: password invalid. i even tried making a new account for the loginserver, and i got the same error.

If your password contains numbers, try using the number row above the keyboard. The client sometimes doesn't recognize numlock so the numpad input isn't registered.

Maybe it was just me, but for what it's worth the password reset utility does not seem to be working correctly. I was emailed dead links on 4 separate occasions when attempting to reset my password.

Afaik its been like this for a while, sadly don't think there's any way to actually recover old accounts like this or change the email associated with an account, a change I think they made to combat RMT account buying/selling. I have another old account from 2010 I lost the password to years ago that I have not been able to recover due to this. I could be wrong but I have had no success recovering the password either.

I'm not seeing an answer to the following scenario:
I am not locked out of the Forum Account and I do know the email address as it is listed in the profile. I simply need to change it as that email address is no longer functioning/active.

I can log into my forum account fine with my current username and password, but I need to change my email address in my forum profile as the email currently there is no longer active. This can be confirmed by trying to send an email to it which will result in an "address not found" return message.

Because of this, I am unable to make any password changes as the system sends a reset to the email listed in the profile and trying to change the email results in the message "The ability to change email addresses is currently disabled."

Is there an ability to manually update an email address by the system admins outside automation? Or am I stuck forever with never being able to reset or change my password as I can never change my email even though I know my forum account username and password?

I am attempting to create my account. I have everything downloaded and running well, came onto here to create my account and got to SMS verification. Unfortunately I was one number off in my cell phone number. I thought maybe the SMS verification stop after a few minutes and reset but it has not. I am currently around 12 hours past the SMS being sent but I cannot reset it. If I could get the SMS canceled I would appreciate it or if I can reset it that would also work. Thanks again.

Hi, I had some problems with the password google picked for me for the loginserver. I managed to change the password for loginserver account and it still says its invalid when I try to log into the game. Is login name and password case sensitive or what else could I try? Hello again! I have not played in 3 years and would like to do so again. However, I don't remember my loginaccount password. When I select "Reset Password" and click on Continue, I get an error message. I clicked on SMS Verification thinking that's where I add my SMS number but thought wrong. I'd rather not creating another loginaccount since my husband plays as well and would prefer not to go through the petition process. Is there a way to add an SMS number to my Forum account? If not, then I'll just create another account and go through the petition process.

It does not appear this will be fixed so just play I guess. Just don't forget your password or you will be like the other people on the pages of this thread. I had to start all over again with a new LogIn account cause I don't remember my password and SMS will not work. This...keep checking this every few days to try and get SMS to work, see an update, and spam my login browser with random passwords to see if my brain jobs and I input the correct one somehow. Rather annoying. Combined with zero news on a new server really dampens my love for p99.

It says this - You currently have no Loginserver Accounts. Create one Here. I have only ever dealt with this site - not eqemulator in terms of setting up accounts. Also, for the record, I have logged in within the past month as well so I know it was there.

I'm going through all of this ATM, as a returning player. Got my P1999 forum login sorted, also got my EQEmu forum login sorted, checked my login accounts (all there). So far so good.

Now tried to get the SMS setup, so I can reset my login password and it's not sending a confirmation. I used the correct international prefix and number and can't try again, as one is pending.

Would you be able to confirm if the SMS service is operational and if so, take a look why it's not sending?
