I’m back after being gone from EQ (Sony EQ) for about 13ish years. Not sure exactly. I played from th Original game in 1999 to LDoN. Came back for DoN and the Sands of Marr? (I think that was it’s name)

After being back for 2 days and spending time in Gfay and orc hill I realized why I loved this game and what’s been missing from every other MMO I’ve played since. It’s the social aspect. Players sharing buffs. Only casters can bind. You literally can’t play past level 5 solo (with a few exceptions). You need other people.

Instancing and Plane of Knowledge is what killed the game for me. If all the camps were taken you had to find something else to do until a spot opened up. Being a good player mattered. If you had a good tank or healer or cc’er or whatever, you remembered that person and tried to get them in your group. With instancing there was always a camp open. The single world that all character were in gave it a sense of realism that private camps in instances didn’t have. Dealing with spawn stealers and trains and clearing the way to the disco in Sebelis or finding a replacement to keep that awesome group going. We’re what made this game so appealing. Games like WoW with the random dungeon finders and all the conveniences just take all the social aspect out of the game. You may be playing with other people but you are t connecting with them.

The portals in PoK made it the hub for high level chars. This took them away from the cities and the lower level characters. I remember seeing those high level chars come around to our orc hill camp and buff us all with their sweet gear and we all wanted to be that char.

Loving being back! Hope to see you all around. Mains name was and is Grakt. Troll shaman
