hello everyone, Midoo the Barbarian Warrior here, level 18 at the time of writing this, same as my age
i've been playing this game on and off for the past year or so every time i got the chance, and i have to say it's easily one of the most fun MMORPG experiences i've ever had
i came from World of Warcraft, a comparatively super casual MMO that's more like an arcade game, where dungeons feel like boss-rushing arenas, progression is done through cinematic quests, and grind is almost nonexistent
i always heard about Everquest 1 and how people basically called it world of warcraft's racist old conservative grandpa, and being the masochist i am i decided to look up the classic version and try it myself, lo and behold, i was hooked with the crazy levels of immersion and i loved the fact that this game does not spoil you or hold your hand, added to the fact that i'm an absolute minmaxing freak who's addicted to mental math and writing builds and analyzing mechanics, i just found myself in everquest
i have zero experience playing this game in the past, so i came in basically blind, with my only point of reference being world of warcraft, and i taught myself about the races and classes, how every class has a rigid predetermined role, how races aren't separated by faction, i rolled a bar warrior to 18, a halfling druid to level 6, an iksar necro to level 5, etc.
my dilemma seems to be that almost every single person i meet in this game is some 30-40 year old veteran who probably started playing when kunark was live or something, and almost every guide i read assumes you're stacked with millions of plat enough to deck out your twink toons in fungi and velious gear, so it's a bit rough for me to really get a sense of familiarity
other than that the community is the warmest, kindest and most welcoming group of people i've had the honor of playing with. i used to solo every bit of content in world of warcraft and avoid grouping since i was an antisocial wreck, but everquest encouraged me to make friends, since hunting solo is just suicide for someone with my level of knowledge
anyway, thanks for reading, hope to see you in Norrath
