View Full Version : Leveling a chanter: Tboots vs Jboots vs SoW pots?

I know the effective differences of each item. My chanter is only 18 now with a gobby ring and some budget CHA gear. Curious I should pull the trigger on tBoots due to ease of acquisition, keep buying sow pots until I can camp the jboots, or just save up a bit for the jboots.

The prob with pots is im a cheap ass and tend to only use them for traveling. More deaths. I guess there are other GCD clickies like the Rod of Insidious Glamour. How much am I going to kick myself not having an instant runspeed tool later on if I buy the tboots now?

Thanks for your insight.

Sow pots imo. SOW is a much faster run speed than jboot or tboot and you won't even need 10 of them to last you until you can camp the jboots yourself.

No reason to get Tboots over Jboots. Jboots are an essential clicky and the argument 'oh but you can get x sow pot casts for the money!' is redundant, you will encounter many situations that you'll pras being able to click jboots on the move. That being said its also nice to keep a couple of sow pots in bag.

Enchanter prints plat leveling, you should have no trouble affording them, but if you are struggling for money use sow pots till you're able to afford.

Just get Jboots... you'll end up getting them anyway

The correct answer is both: Jboots during exping, and sow pots at 40+ for long travel as it really starts to pull away from Jboot speed.

Tboots would be a waste, just save up a bit more for Jboots, not hard to find the MQ for sale.

Thanks to all for the input. That makes perfect sense.

Yea I'm pretty close to the cash needed for the MQ. Also exceptionally lazy so sitting on an island for hours (and in line longer than that) is probably not going to happen.

Absolutely not Tboots. Tboots are never a smart purchase. You’re already very close to the cost of jboots, and can probably even haggle down the price with a jboot seller.

If you don’t have a GG ring, ring and sow pots would be the best use of money, but since you have the ring already, my vote is jboots.

Sow pots or Tboots only.

Buying Jboots makes you a cuck, be a man and get T boots.

Dont feed into toxic economy.

Tboots have a cast time.

Cast time or instant?

Hmm

Yea I have a gobby ring and just over 200 CHA; considering a Kobald Jester Crown so I can dump some CHA slots for HP's (like rings).

Trying not to die is the next step at the moment. Gotta outrun those crocodiles!

Jboots are a quality of life item.

200 cha is just fine and a kobold jester crown has too much neg int. I wouldnt go that route.

Since when does hiring some nolifer (paying him worthless pixel monopoly money, no less) to do some boring, menial job for you make anyone but HIM the "cuck?"

T-boots are fine. I use them on one character because I bought them during one of the periods when J-boots were significantly more expensive. The cast time is, in practice, not a significant problem. That being said, at current prices T-boots are also completely pointless. Buy the J-boots if you want an instant-click runspeed item. Spirit of Wolf potions are always useful for when higher speed is desired if you can spare the additional bag slot.

Here are some numbers to chew on.

Leveling my warrior from 1 to 57 I decided to go with sow pots instead of jboots. I've used 204 sow pot charges over 11 days /played and with a vendor recharge cost of approximately 12p each chug that comes to 2448 plat spent on sowing. Adding in another 600p to buy the pots puts me at a little over 3k plat so far to sow whenever I feel like it. If I had skipped vendor recharging and instead bought all my pots from the tunnel I could have saved another 1k off that total.

Jboots are slower and more expensive but they do have an advantage in inventory management where you don't have to juggle empty sow pots. If you want to be frugal use sow pots, especially if you don't play the character that often. If you have a little money to spend or if you plan on playing the character for a long time get jboots.

First time I've ever heard of someone recharging sow pots lol.

I'll recharge them sometimes. The extra 15-20% it costs or whatever over looking for some in ec is money I'm willing to pay sometimes. Ec is an awful place.

Nobody should ever ever buy or cast tboots

Get jboots. They're the best item in the game or maybe tied with water flask

No reason for a caster to get TBoots over JBoots in terms of a GCD item, but TBoots are superior in that you don't need to wait in line to stare at a spawn point for hours. I'll probably never have one of Hadden's earrings, but I'd rather use sub-par clickies than turn my limited playtime into spawn camping. Hell, I'd rather do lowbie quests for lore flavor and pointless faction gains. As a rogue kiting blue sand giants, I have enough time to stop and recast TBoots mid-kite, so that's all the utility I really need.

You realize you can buy a jboot mq for only like 1500 plat more than the tboots cost, right? There's almost no point to the cast time tboots at that price difference when you also have the faster run speed sow pots available if needed while you earn the extra plat to buy a jboot mq.

Offer 5k for Jboot MQ and use Sow pots until you get a seller or camp them yourself. Do not accept a 6k seller, leave them in the cold. There are too many AC rings and SoW potions and the existance of Tboots as an option to ever allow Jboots to sell for 6k. 5.5 is fine if they are offering rapier and for some odd reason the gold.

I paid 5.6 all included. Port and PoTG. Kinda nice since in the late teens it’s basically 2 hrs of power leveling.

Thanks for all the feedback! With the ring and boots it’s easy-mode soloing at this point.

I've paid 2k for the loot rights to ring before.

Sadly can't remember name, but the seller was a kind female wood elf that used to regularly do S Ro.
