View Full Version : Burrito Filling

You can choose ONE burrito filling. What would you pick to fill your burrito if only given one option?

This of course does not include the "good stuff" that goes into the burrito, like pollo or pico or cilantro. This is simply your choice for the filler if you had to narrow to one choice.

I figured RnF would be a good place for this if the debate heats up to pickle level. Some (me) tend to get aggressive over food for some reason despite not caring much about ACTUAL issues. Feel free to flame each other's choices. After hearing a couple friends (incorrect) choices, I have to know if I'm right in regard to popular opinion concerning this matter.

Thank you for your time participating in this study.

While close to 9/11 - 7/11 does not quite qualify. Sadly this invalidates your entire poll and I will not be able to participate due to no BUSH/TWR option

Filing you under "vegan". The door is that way, sir.

Rice. Less irritating to the gut than beans, easier to cook than potatoes, and you can flavor it a bunch of different ways.

I did chuckle at the 7/11 joke, though.

black beans and rice is the correct choice, but it's not on the poll?

Pinto beans are proper. Best if done from scratch using salt pork or pancetta. !Que maravilla!

It's quite American to steal another culture's food and put cheese on it.

I tried to make a quesadilla (starting to use dual tortilla technique lately) last night in a frying pan too small for the tortillas and I couldn't get it to flip without spilling the cheese, so it ended up being a burrito with an extra tortilla inside it (+plus cheese and chilli w/sour cream on the side). Was surprisingly good.

tl;dr: I choose pickles.

I appreciate you taking my mental health into consideration when selecting the burrito filling of your choice.

This poster has taken several factors into consideration when making his selection.* Model poll participant right here.

if your burrito needs filler it's a bad burrito

I am curious what you consider to be a good burrito.* A burrito without one of the three poll choices would be lacking in my opinion. For people like you, there is the 7/11 option. Thank you, kind sir or madam.

Again, Melon has foiled my plot of community division by bringing my secret burrito agenda to light.* I'll get you next time, Masked Melon!

meat (carne asada), cheese (both queso and monjack), sour cream, enchilada sauce on top and that's it. leave rice and beans on the side where they belong. double wrong if you think a burrito shouldn't be wet.

There is a wonderful Mexican place down the road from me that has the best carnitas burrito ever. It is a standard preparation (meat, Mexican rice, beans, cilantro and onion). This place is the real deal though, having items like cabeza, lengua y tripas on the menu.

I think there is a crema/cheese option, but I prefer to not detract from proper carnitas.

The salsas are traditional, and in squeeze bottles: habanero, chile de arbol and verde.

Way farther north. :)

For similar money, I'll go back to Belize. That place is badass. Still mostly poor, being agricultural, but at least they regulate the fisheries and for the most part are pretty awesome to tourists.

the cilantro thing is objective truth for some subset of population iirc. presence or absence of a particular receptor. I think.

I made bacon, egg and hashbrown burritos the other day. Unfortunately, my wife has a bad capsaicin allergy so I couldn't make my habanero salsa to go with them.

Here is the recipe I learned from a Mexican fella that owned a food truck:

1 large red tomato
6 habaneros
1/4 medium onion
2 cloves garlic

Par-boil all until the tomato skin splits. Drain, and place all ingredients into a blender. Add salt as you go so you get it to your preference. Let cool and transfer to container (squeeze bottles best).

Refrigerate and serve cold, like sweet, sweet revenge.

You can also roast or char the ingredients as opposed to boiling, but the listed recipe is more traditional. You'll find it very similar to habanero salsa found in Mexican-owned taquerias.

Oh hell yeah!

I use it mainly for the following:

- Pesto, if basil isn’t looking so fresh
- Chopped and sprinkled over basically any pasta dish, but especially clam linguine.
- Otherwise it adds nice color and freshness to a dish that may be a bit heavy, like lasagne or beef stroganoff.
