View Full Version : Feeling Lost in Mid-Levels

Hoping some helpful suggestions can get me back on track.

I now have 4 characters and all in the same-ish level range:
36 Paladin
36 Bard
28 Enchanter
27 Rogue

Most have followed a CB > Unrest > MM path. They are my highest level characters, and most have around ~200 - 1000pp in gear. So no crazy items.

MM seems to only realistically support 1 group at the 35-40 range, so my Bard and Paladin feel stuck waiting in queues to maybe get a group at the end of my play session.

The Enchanter has been a breath of fresh air because I can solo so effectively. I’ve been doing upper guk and having a lot of fun, but things are starting to green out.

Given my 4 characters, where would you park them to find groups? I’m happy playing any of these 4 classes, but with only 1-2 hour play sessions most of the week, I can’t spend an hour waiting on a group slot. Any grouping zones that can support a bunch of players?

Thanks for any recommendations!

Have you retired swarm kiting on the bard? This is the fastest way to level once you get the hang of it. I think at 36 it would be OT, but I’ve never barded. Bard can also charm solo, wh which is easier done in outdoor zone.

Paladin - MM or lguk is where I would go. If you go lguk there might be some undead near the zone in you can solo while you lfg.

Rogue - I’d go to hhk and try to get in goblin group. Xp is insane and ears can help accelerate or turn into pp.

Ench - hhk would also be good and if you don’t care about faction you could kill guards solo if goblins are camped and group is full. Uguk is fine and different areas of the zone have higher level mobs. Ench can basically solo or group any in any level appropriate zone. Some other ideas - Cazic Thule gator tunnels or sol a.

Enchanter and Rogue - High Keep Goblins

Paladin and Bard - MM Castle Entrance

I hate leveling 35-40...seems like such a dead spot.

@Supa
I’ve avoided swarm kiting on Bard because I prefer the group experience and playing CC. I have done some Fear/Slow kiting of giants for the Lambert armor quest. I heard SolA might be a good option but it’s been mostly dead.

For a Paladin in LGuk, where would I bind? Corpse runs sound like a nightmare. With Enchanter I just bound outside the zone. Never done LGuk, so if there’s a decent bind spot I’ll give it a shot.

@Scaring
Interesting you also find 35-40 a dead spot. I’ve had a blast getting 4 characters to 30, but it just felt like a wall at 35. Does 40 get better? And why?

In my opinion, 40 gets a lot better.

But I guess it depends on how you feel about City of Mist.

I personally love City of Mist. You can easily go 40-50 there and can stay there after 50 if you want.

It's an 'outdoor' dungeon, with nicely defined camps, a few weapon drops (even if they're cheap), and it's WAY easier to find groups there than say, Mistmoore.

At 35 if you can rustle up a couple friends, FV drolvargs are fun. Low ZEM but tons of space to fight, and you can fight unmolested near the zoneline. Low stress, and the snarlers are good up til 40. Canine turn-ins are a great exp boost for good races too.

Google superuser here. Typed in "p99 leveling" and got https://wiki.project1999.com/Per-Level_Hunting_Guide as first result.

Sometimes you just gotta suck it up, wait for groups, and griiiiind it out.

Something that really helps is actually talking to people -- don't just /ooc at the zoneline and expect people to send you tells. Get an invis and actually walks up to the group you'd like to join and send specific people tells, ask who the group leader (GL) is. I've often gotten spots in groups because people didn't necessarily want my particular class in their group enough to send *me* a tell, but when I was there "in person" they just decided to say fuck it and shoot me an invite.

If that doesn't work, ask the GL to put you on the list and then log over to one of your other characters -- keep in touch with the GL from your alt, checking in with a tell every so often.

sola might be another option. I don't often see full groups there, but duos/trios are there all the time. Good races slaughtering goblins. Evil races can stay at gnomes through the low 40s.

Paladin could do Hags in unrest solo I would think breaking might be tricky depending on gear.

SolA duo/trio is best exp lvl 35-40

40 enchanter duo with a cleric 40-50 in kaesora/com/solb you’ll feel like your doing lvls 10-20 again it will go so fast

Any of your toons are proper level for Sol A.
Great exp
Great coin with FS weapons, chunks of ore that sell for 6pp, 15pp and 50pp or so
Some classes can vendor in zone using sneak or other tricks
Other classes can vendor at the nearby druid port-in
Speaking off, this might be the closest viable exp zone to a druid port in

Just be sure to mute your speakers when you zone into Lavastorm

I'm level 34 on my rogue.

I've been running to HHK and MM Castle. Only time I have issues with groups is late at night when no priest classes are playing.

I've had really good success on my 37 monk in OT for pugs lately.

Why not do something different on each one? If you can't find a spot on one move to the next guy.

36 Paladin - Park at MM or Park at LGuk. May be tough finding LGuk groups not sure.
36 Bard - Solo outside somewhere or Park at MM.
28 Enchanter - If you're ballsy, solo sol a while lfg. Park at HHK (be sure to charm Osgarn).
27 Rogue - Park at HHK.

I'd push to get pally or bard to 40 and park them at CoM.

Haha 36 is the level all my characters stick at. Its a mystery to me. Too low or high for all dungeons

Sol A / Splitpaw / Tundra yetis in DL / Kaesora mid 30s-low 40s (at least for yetis)
Sol B or Kedge (fuck CoM, overcrowded and slow) 40-50

36 Paladin
36 Bard
28 Enchanter
27 Rogue

I dunno man just idea's with some creativity /shrug

Paladin to maybe bottom of Uguk near AC spawn. That little stretch is awesome xp! As also mentioned you could start moving into Lguk. undead nukey nuke. Or basement in unrest? You could also do spectres at this lvl. They are also good for plat.

Bard I would say go anywhere and swarm OT//FV// maybe giants in FM

Enchanter I would also do like Guk or you can do FV cliffs if you find someone that can snare. Charm a pirate or chrotographer or w.e. they backstab, have them bring it in and you fear it and put pet on it. The xp is super good!!!

Rogue I would say SolA is awesome xp at that level, but I don't know how well you would survive. I have my 25 war there and I do really well at that first little bridge with like 4-5 gobbies and xp is just insane. If you get a group you could roll over it all.

In the mid 30s, I often brought my characters to Overthere. There are usually a few people or a full group or two killing mobs near SF zone line.

I leveled my Rogue from 34 to 40 at Overthere Ramp.

There used to be a lot more groups there in the past though. Not sure how it is now.

You could try getting to the LOIO or Iceclad for 27-35ish and then move on to Mines of Nurga or Crystal Caverns.

Semi off topic but this reminds me MM used to have a 2nd courtyard group in the back by where dhamp spawns, but I never see groups there anymore.

Assemble your own band of merry men for an adventure!! Don't sit around waiting for somebody to respond to your lfg..

This has always worked fantastically for my rogue, both live and on p99

EDIT: that also lets you scope out the group's classes and you can /tell the person who you'd most likely replace to see if they need a rep anytime soon

Lake of Ill Omen - Sarnak Fort
The sarnak in the fort drop gems up to black pearls more often that the frogloks in lower guk and have good amounts of cash and other loot. They are about the right level to be blue and dark green to your guys. The sarnak earing of station can drop plus the bracer of the hidden and other items you can just vendor. One of the few vendors a good race can use is in zone at the windmill and it is close to FV for banking and restocking. There are many single pull spots, and for your guys that can Calm you will never run out of mobs to kill. At your level you can camp the sarnak Courier for the Goblin Gazughi Ring also, but the mobs will mostly be green.

Frontier mountains giants are a lot of fun and can provide some decent loot. Good for levels 30 to 40.

So if your looking for somewhere to play and lvl I think Velious is the place to go with your bard. At 36 you should be able to do the tizmak caves (great divide) for a good few more lvls. then when they turn green go to the kodiak caves for a little bear hunting. When those turn green you can go to Eastern wastes for walrus and then some rygorr followed by giants. when your done there go to the shardworm caves back in great divide and you can go all the way (slowly but steadily) to 60. I always charmed or fear kited. but there will be some opertunitey to swarm if thats what you do
Good luck

I'm not gonna lie, I often end up soloing 36-40, even on clerics, Warriors and other 'group classes'.
