View Full Version : Zone suggestions for Power Level (1-20) in low-pop zones

Hello everyone,

Duo of a lvl 40 Monk/Shaman is seeking low-key zone suggestions for powerlevelling our friend. Hoping to get our friend to level 20-ish so that he can group up with our various alts.

Thing is, we'll feel like jerks doing this for several hours in a populated zone. Any suggestions for low-population zones that could cover this level range? For instance, is Kerra Isle an option?

Befallen (despite the ZEM) is simply off the table after how many times we've had to vacate during our lower lvls due to PLer's; maybe we just had bad luck. I've even seen enough action in the Warrens lately that I'm hesitant to suggest that zone.

Would welcome any suggestions!

PS - PL approach is for Sham to heal/buff/round up mobs, Monk beats them up to about 5% + FDs allowing our buddy to get full EXP.

You can try kaesora. It's a high ZEM zone and almost always empty.

Also SolA Goblins / Gnomes. High ZEM there too. But more often camped than Kaesora.

Cavern below kurns is great and I rarely saw people down there.

1-20 warrens is good
1-15 unrest yard is good
1-20 Kerra island
1-25 lake of I’ll omen has a plethora of mobs
1-20 Kurns
Highpass orcs is like 8-9 orcs every 5mins + scalps for exp
Upper Guk ** usually empty enough for a powerlvl and you could easily go 1-30 here** this would be the first place I looked

You may be able to get away with SolA if monk and shaman are geared

PLing a low lvl in kaesora at lvl 40 wouldn’t be efficient

Thank you everyone for the detailed info! I also did not think Kaesora would work (hell, it's still a bit scary for us to exp in at lvl 40) but love all of these other suggestions

Yea man - honestly go to upper Guk and just have the low lvl follow the monk around and clean up it has one of the two highest ZEMs in the game could also look into a https://wiki.project1999.com/Brazier_of_Elemental_Summoning and give the pet like a runed frost blade + torch for some hits in the 70s lol

Thanks for caring, really.

Many folks think it's ok to PL during peak times in zones like CB or Kurns. I'd ignore the draw to hit zones with a good ZEM since those are usually pretty populated. Instead I would try less popular zones like Steamfont, SRO, NRO, Lava ect. Just be aware of newbies trying to level the ALS way. :)

Hey Menden, you know it! Our goal is to level our buddy up in a manner that doesn't inconvenience or irritate other players. We've certainly been on the losing end of that stick on our Monk/Sham, especially as newbs. Thank you for the additional input!

Zipity, I've read about those crazy Braziers and we honestly might just try one if our buddy can commit to a session of 4-5 hours. Even though my monk is literally using this same weapon, I've read that giving the Brazier pet a Wu's Quivering Staff is a great way to maximize the pet's DPS/usefulness (for minimal plat).

Ok nice! I've only been there once, it totally strikes me as the epitome of a low-population/underutilized zone.

Do you have a minimum level recommendation before bringing him out there? (ie have you brought level 1's out there? didn't know if we should get him to lvl 5 first or something). Basically we need to make sure he's able to "land a hit" on the mobs after I get 'em down to 5% and flop

Kerra island has a lot of wisps. Make sure he has a magic weapon, gloves and boots to ensure he can hit them (if he's melee, caster is obviously no problem).

What class is your friend playing?

Hi BarackObooma! Are you actually referring to Erud's crossing (rather than Kerra Island)? I totally had the two mixed up back in '99. I don't see any wisps listed on the wiki for the zone labeled Kerra Island.

That said, Erud's crossing is certainly an option as all of the lightstone turn-ins would be nice-- perhaps get him up to level 12 or so and then hand-in backpacks full of stones?

@Leegin, he has installed the game onto his PC but has not chosen a class. There are obviously certain classes that are easier to PL than others-- hah, though we don't plan to push him any direction (we'll let him decide), you have any thoughts on which classes are easier vs harder to PL?

I normally DS plvl when needed, its just more efficient than FD'ing since it can take ages for a lvl 1-5 to kill a, say, 5% lvl 15 mob.

Also, no wisps in Kerra to worry about.

I often plug the Per-Level Hunting Guide (link in signature) for soloing, but it's also great for duos and trios, and it's full of out of the way places to level up.

Have you considered updating this for inflated prices?

Edit: I meant the treasure hunting guide

I have, but honestly it'd be a giant pain in the ass, and then two years from now I'd have to do it all over again.

What I'd really like to do is give the wiki a way to add an item's price to the page (either the way that the current "mouseover and see the item" links work, or the way the item summary list pages work). If it had that I could make the Treasure Hunting Guide display prices that always stay up to date, without any extra work.

But to do something like that I'd need Ravhin-level wiki access AND I'd have to deal with filthy filthy PHP code. Maybe if the former ever happens I'll suck it up and deal with the latter, but until then I'm stuck with manually updating prices (which I just don't have the time for).

All classes at the low levels are easy to PL. If you're using a monk to PL, any fast ratio weapon will get the job done. If your friend makes a caster, Nobles Walk Staff is basically a Jade Mace. Grab either of those and you're good to go for early PL.

Lavastorm and najena maybe

Najena is nice but watch out for casters if the friend gets aggro. I think a lot of the mages ds.

Also with Befallen the key is to fall down the well. I've never ran into a group down there but it's been a couple years since I've power leveled on my druid.

Runnyeye might be an under utilized option but I don't personally have any experience with that zone.

I power level in runnyeye a lot. The zone is broken down into 4 layers with the mobs getting harder on the way down. There are a lot of casters and runners. I have used a shaman to do some crappy power leveling in there. Make sure he has a regen on and I use the drowsy spell to take aggro in case he gets it. The casters can burn him down quick. You can go all the way to 40 there no problem. Its one of my favorite zones and is always empty.

Befallen... highest ZEM, be 18 in a matter of an hour, can push it to 20 but will take longer, and rarely more than 1 or 2 people there because it is a bitch to CR in there. Even with 2 people the bottom floor can sustain non-stop pulls.
