I'm new to EQ but not to MMORPG's. It would be nice if there was someone around the ogre town that would be willing to come party up with me or even a group. Let me know if that would be possible and when. I'll be online all night.

Northern Ro/ east commonlands / west commonlands..

They are zones... Google em and eq atlas ^^so you can figure out how to get there...

If you type /lfg on on the chat box it will put lfg next to your name "looking for group" and people can find you by searching /w all lfg

I really hope I'm not getting trolled here.. Hehe

Do some googling!

If you turn on anonymous (Anon) your level won't show in any /who commands, so no one will know whether you're a good group choice.

Just be aware that EQ-classic is a LOT slower progression wise than most MMOs (unless you've been playing hardcore korean MMOs).

Ogre warrior will eventually be a great combination for you, especially if you're looking to end-game. For now a beginning character it could be a bit difficult, but don't let that discourage you. Your best bet will be to get to East Commonlands (this zone is used as the main trading zone, where people go to buy/sell items to other players so is heavily populated with higher levels generally). Try to get a bind in freeport so you don't have to run as far when you die (the spot you go to when you die is called your 'bind' spot, casters and priests can bind non-casters inside city areas at levels 12 and 14 respectively). Then beg buffs&solo till around level 8 (chances are decent someone would be willing to give you a better weapon and maybe some pp to get you started if you ask nicely, but don't beg).

Groups there aren't terribly uncommon for the low levels, I think people will also group in the West Commonlands untill 11-12ish, where you can go to the Oasis of Marr until the mid-late teens. At which point, with Kunark being available, many people will be heading to the Lake of Ill Omen.

This explains some stuff that'll be useful to you.

Fixed!

Honestly, for a new player, I'd be EXTREMELY hesitant to reccomend anything other than a strong solo class like necro or mage.

Grouping classes (cleric, enchanter, tanks, rogues are the biggest ones) will require a HUGE amount of patience to level up. And groups are "not uncommon" at low levels, but they are pretty hard to come by once you get up in the 40+ area, ESPECIALLY if you play in off-hours. And soloing for these classes tends to be pretty painful (and slow), especially for someone not familiar with EQ.

if you dont play in EST evenings then either find a friend to play with or perhaps choose someone who can also solo. groups are hard to come by otherwise.

thank u guys all so much. I've started a half elf bard, is that a good choice for a beginner crit? If not my second choice will be a mage, whats a good class for mage that will start somewhere close to common lands?

A bard is probably one of the best classes for you due to the fact that they are highly desired by groups and great at soloing. However, bards are one of the most difficult classes to play... But let us be honest here, it is an MMO from 99; i.e. classes aren't that difficult. Read a few guides on playing a bard and I'm sure you will be fine. I would look specifically at AoE kiting (Area of Effect Kiting, there is a great guide on the wiki) and twisting.

Good luck!

cool, I think i'll stick with a bard. Do they lvl pretty fast? what is the fastest lvl class/race?

warrior/rogue halfling gets the highest positive XP bonus, but requires a group to gain any xp. Halflings receive a 5% xp bonus for any class they play, warriors get a 10% xp bonus and rogues a 9% bonus according to the p99 FAQ.

http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1002

Bards level relatively fast once you figure out how to swarm-kite, despite their heavy xp penalty.

Necromancers and Mages level quickly if you're in to solo play. Druids can also solo but resists are screwy at the moment which makes it harder for them, they wouldn't typically be able to solo as fast as a nec/mage but make up for it by having a greater group desirability.

Sounds like Bard is the class you like, stay with it.

i also started a human magician, is that a pretty good combo? I started it because I've heard they increase levling pretty fast.

well, I'm just pretty much tryin to see what fits for me. I love casters but they always seem so slow when you start one. Bards look cool to me because I know very little about them. I like the mage because it summons things. I guess I'll just have to keep doin trial and error to find what i truely want to put time into.
