I don't know if you fixed it or broke it, but it has always seem that when you drink your mana would go up.. then when it hit 100% even though your manna pool may be smaller you would gain past what it was showed. Depending on how long you set.
Now it goes up to like 99% and as you sober up it goes down then meding will bring it up. Even in old EQ it seemed to be the way I first explained it. However you will know more than this alcohol abuser.

Well it was never exactly that your mana was going up. It looks that way because as yout int/wis goes down you have less of a manapool.

In other words, if you have mana at 1000 mana at 50% and start drinking, that 1000 mana will eventually be your max manapool making it 100%

But I see what you're saying.
