View Full Version : Will I do more damage as Dual Wield as 42 Monk?

So I currently have a Peacebringer and have leveled pretty much my entire monk career as 2hand. First with Wu's Quivering Staff, then upgrading to a Peacebringer after farming all the spiderling silk in the world.

I'm 42 and wondering if I'd do more damage with Dual wielding. I understand how Dual wield suffers a bit more due to Riposte from the mobs, but I can handle that if I gain damage.

If the answer as to whether it is possible to do more damage as dual wield yes, what caliber of weapons would I need as a level 42 monk in order for it to work?

I traded my IFS for AC/SoS around 50 if that helps

i asked the same before, someone posted below and i am able to verify as i level to 54

DPS wise.......Dual wield better up to about 30, then 2hb better until high 40's / 50, then back to dual wield

Get gamparse and check for yourself (Note: Your dps is highly dependant on mob ac and level difference between mob and you )

Try duel wielding peacebringer with offhand!

If you are soloing then I would NOT recommend Peacebringer much at all. That 10 weight is nasty and I always felt like i could see myself taking more damage once i passed that weight cap. Of course you can ignore this if you have ALL the tink bags for the loots

Weight cap ac doesnt mean shit till 52+, go ahead and be 35 weight all the time.

I switched to Adamantite Club/Stave of Shielding at 50. Possibly could have swapped sooner, but they proc at 50. I still keep IFS bagged for DS'd mobs or if I don't want to pull aggro with stun procs.

SoS are so expensive now. IDK. I have such a hard time stomaching 7k for one. That is like most of a chardok metal pipe MQ.

I have been using my IFS still at 51, and my damage seems fine. You guys think IFS prices will skyrocket with chardok 2.0?

IFS will go up in price yes. It will be better dps than epic + SoS.

For the monk class you can't go wrong with IFS/PB all the way up to 60 even prior to chardok patch. Personally I favor the IFS. The ratio is a bit better. It weighs a lot less. It looks cooler. You will do more damage via riposte and take less dmg from ripostes and dmg shields.

Still using my IFS at 56.

Also, you can swap it out of inventory during your swing timer and get a double punch fist auto in there if you're really OCD and trying to min/max.

Its a pretty significant increase in DPS. I don't do it all the time....but if sh*t is hitting the fan or I'm trying to impress a potential shaman duo buddy....I bust out dem fists in between IFS swings for sure.

I have done it too. Totally not worth the effort in your average group, but can be nice with a tough solo fight.

Really? I have been fussing about not being too heavy all these lvls for nothing?
Cripes, all that lost loot. <sniff>

It means more than most people are willing to admit at all levels of gameplay unless you're hugely twinked at low levels.

Mobs just don't hit hard enough to matter with AC difference until then. Being super paranoid about ~10-20 AC which, over the course of a fight might make like 10-20 damage difference (at low to medium levels) just isn't worth it.

When mobs start hitting 100+ per hit, then AC matters. But mitigating 1 dmg off of like 20 doesn't really matter.

Source: Me soloing my monk to 52 at 35-50 weight the whole time, no fungi, the most "twink" was jade maces, pb, schw, and a black pantherskin chest

If you can find a pair of good 1hb weapons, dual wield is better, but if youe skill isn’t maxxed, it’ll take some time before this becomes true. I’d invest in a bag of the tinkers to carry around your PB, and bust it out for DS’d mobs. Even better yet, rep your PB with an IFS.
