Pantheon will probably close shop within 2 years

I hate to say it, but it probably will happen. That's if it's released, which at this point I'm 50% confident it will.

I just don't think there are enough people interested in the niche genre at this point in time. Everything seems to be going towards mobile gaming or console gaming. Now people prefer to play simple mind numbing time killers vs something that really immerses them. It even seems like a lot more people would prefer to watch someone play a game then play it themselves.

There was very little competition when EQ released 20 years ago. Now there are so many games to pull people away, I just can't see a dedicated player base staying around for more than a year or 2. The draw for people to play on p99 is mostly nostalgia based. Nostalgia really won't exist on Pantheon, certainly not at the level found here.

I'll play it if it realeases. I look forward to the content and immersing myself. I look forward to it being better than what project99 offers.

If they delete the flaming swords and make it like everquest. But with updated (less sweatshop kindergarten) graphics (more professional) and no mudflation, but content instead, and no gimmicks and not RMT store. Maybe.

I doubt this will ever exist.

They also need to cater towards people with 25 year old computers. Not some crap now. I doubt they dev'd the game in DX8. Or some scurvy version of opengl that runs on absolutely anything.

I want to like eve but its almost as if they want people to blob into huge alliances and I think that's the opposite direction they should be going.

I am hoping square makes a progression server for FFXI because I missed it playing eq and wow and it was a great game, but you cant just login and start playing you will have no idea what to do / where to level and huge gear gap.

I think there is plenty of room for niche game like pantheon. The question is more about the character of the developers than whether or not there is a market for an modern EQ-style MMO.

Seems like a lot of people still want to play EQ even though its old as shit. More specifically, most EQ players like old EQ more than newer EQ expansions.

It's basically Everquest: Unity at this point. Which is fine if they temper their expectations of a player base. If they make classic EQ in the unity engine and don't fuck it up I could see 10,000 subscribers. We will see how it goes although it's a good sign that brad is only a figurehead at this point.

In the end, everything loses it luster after some time and you can only sustain yourself on the nostalgia.
