Relative newb to EQ. Recently acquired some banded. Is there an upgrade to banded thats not overly expensive? Something with some stats?

Here is some good basic starting gear for the Iksar Trooper:
Poison Etched Wristband - 100p

Glimmering Mithril Torque - 100p

Tattered Mantle - 100p

Platinum Fire Wedding Ring(s) - I think the rate for these is both for 250p? I forget but they are a must have!

Tree Weave - solid item, goes really cheap (like 300p)

Helm of Rile - I personally hate the bat wing look, but it's another nice cheap 100-150p piece

Trooper scale armor - most pieces sell for around 100-200p

It might seem like a lot right now, but banded is fine until around level 30 by which time you should be able to passively earn around 1000p from just leveling, looting items and selling them. For now, just aim to enjoy the game and work on leveling until you get to that point. You can also just do the Trooper quests, which in my opinion is pretty fun. I'd recommend doing the above and fill in with trooper pants, gauntlets, boots, and arm guards.

Thurgadin armor quest gear can go for very cheap also - its a huge upgrade for Iksar but you need to get your Coldain faction up in order to do it. Plan on upgrading to Thurgadin gear in your 40's.

My advice is if you don't have a ton of money just play a dps warrior until 40 and don't worry about being too tanky. Focus on making friends who you can level with because warriors are incredibly group reliant, especially if you don't have the best gear.

Here's a couple good (and cheap) items to look for on the dps side:
Jarsath Trident - 100p

Iksar Berserker Club - 200p
http://wiki.project1999.com/Iksar_Berserker_Club
Staff of Battle - 300-500p
http://wiki.project1999.com/Staff_of_Battle

If you're absolutely set on being a tank, then save up your plat for an Axe of the Slayers. The proc on this item is a protective rune, which generates a lot of aggro when it activates, while also letting you take a couple extra hits basially for free.

Also if you think you have a pretty healthy group and all you want to do is get a lot of aggro, get a pair of Goblin Skull Crushers - the stun is exceptional aggro and procs at level 15. You can find these for 50p in the East Commonland Tunnel.

Once you hit 40 the go-to cheap aggro weapon is ye auld Ykeshan war club

Perhaps I shall see you one day in the Hall of Champions, young trooper, until then-

The gear you really need are the two HP rings. You also need a good weapon. I recommend frostbringer and you can probably buy all these fairly early. Other than that just grab anything with HP, AC, str, or stamina

Don't get anything else until you save up 400-500 for a pair of platinum fire rings.
