Newish player. Should I play Iksar Warrior? Or go hybrid?

Im returning after a long hiatus, basically fresh. I'd love to play an iksar warrior, it was my main back in the day, and I had some fun. I also tried a little ranger and SK, and although they both have more utility and spells, and stuff to click on, iksar warrior was always my go to.

I dont want to be bored is all.

I also want to be able to level alright at low levels, and that may seem difficult with the gear dependency of wars. Ill be starting from scratch.

Will there be groups for me at low levels?

is Ranger more viable? SK? for grouping? for overall fun?

Any advice for me?

If you start as iksar, you can pretty easily find groups in FoB and Kurns tower until high teens. As far as what is fun, that's something that's up to you. You're right that warrior has less stuff to click on though. It depends on how active a playstyle you want.

Sounds like Iksar War is the toon you want to play, so go for it. Warrior is the most gear dependent class, so it will be the hardest route, but some people like a challenge.

I've met plenty of players whose only alt is an ecom mule--they stick with one character and play the hell out of it. I'm an alt-whore, so my path was to start with some casters to outfit my melee characters, which made the melee characters a lot more fun (and fast) for me to play later on. I don't have any regrets, but a melee character has never been my "main" character, so I didn't have a tough decision about having to roll it first.

I'd suggest starting with the Iksar warrior, and if you are enjoying it, stick with it. If you're struggling, you can always roll another character and see how it goes, with or without the intent of gearing your warrior later on.

I made an iksar warrior with a small budget up to 29, at which point I got lucky and ended up with an iksar BP, good weapon, etc.

It still was many, many times worse quality of life than shaman or hybrid, and I eventually ditched him. You can do it if you want, but keep in mind you'll be 100% group dependent, so you better make lots of friends if you want to do anything.

I started an Iksar War as my first chat on this server, completely un twinkled. Probably the most fun I've had with any char, other than my current rogue.

You should go for it, it's not too bad, and if you get sick of it, like others have said, you can always try a different char.

With Iksar regen, he could get it down to like 9:30.

Low level groups generally just want warm bodies more than anything. It isn't until 50+ people start to get picky.

Warrior will be difficult in the short run, but more rewarding in the long run.

Shadowknights and Paladins have more innate snap agro, making them great grouping tanks, whereas Warriors naturally rely more on their proccing weapons and damage, so if you're starting with one as you're first toon with no gear... You'll have a harder time holding hate. You'll still get groups though, low and mid level groups don't tend to be very picky.

That being said when you get into the high levels and especially into raiding, warriors are in much higher demand since they are able to take the hits better with their disciplines and higher defense. If you're planning on doing endgame content, you'll get more out of the warrior in the long run.

Iksar berserker club nice weapon in kurns tower for a self gearing warrior. Also, field of bone is only one zone away from EC (Druids and wizards can port to the neighbouring Emerald Jungle to collect you).

Spidering silks and bone chips are a good source of cash from players.

50pp will find you a 1:2 1 hander (fist of Zek) or a 3:4 2 hander (Sarnak Battle hammer).

Everything else save for haste (1.3k) and hp/AC rings (500+pp for a pair).

For armour the ruined scale / burynai hide you find in kurns is ample.

Next weapons should be WESS (if you save the plat) or a scimitar of Ykesha and trochilic's skean (/who all Kithicor and steamfont -look for high levels there as an indicator of these rotting).

At 46 tag along a sky raid (see schedule on wiki) for a belt of contention (fairly nice mid level haste belt).

Jar Sarth armour is another reasonable rot (karnors castle). From 46 the iksar warrior hate armour and growth armor are even better (also reasonably available on rot status).

Get an infestation and/or Frostbringer when you can. Dragon heads sometimes rot in Western Wastes if you can get giant faction give nice rewards).

Once you meet those last two paragraphs your equipment is basically set til 60!

I leveled my first char an iksar warrior to 60, took over a year to reach 60, sole focus.
I had to farm in a few different ways to supply my gear, which took time away from leveling.

Yes, the iksar starting zone is full of other low level players to group with.

IMO? Yes, both ranger and sk are more viable and fun.

If you want to solo, don't make your first character a warrior, unless you want life to be very very hard. Otherwise, iksar are my favorite race, and I love their starting zone a lot.
