View Full Version : Making Money as a Ranger

Any advice on good methods (besides snarky ones like rerolling a different class! :P) for a high-level Ranger to make money solo?

I've heard of farming the named spawns from the Forager/Tracker cycle. Any requirements or tips on how to do that? I'm 59 now with Swiftwind and Sky Cloak, but no Earthcaller yet.

Any other good spots that a Ranger like that could tackle?

Frontier Mountain cycle... not sure how profitable it is anymore after nerfs and and expansion.

There was some sort of cycle in SoNH that dropped gems, too, in which tracking was a great boon.

I think cycles (like the one in Trak's Tooth) are one of the very few things in classic EQ where Rangers truly shine, so going for Iksar BPs is a great idea.

However, if you want to make plat faster I think the real answer is to partner up with a Shaman, and then go after one of the many options on the Treasure Hunting Guide (link in my signature).

tracking...
TT
FT
WL

ezzz cash, I don't know why it's not more publicized for rangers. They have the best tracking. I use to have a friend I met in game who just did those three zones and made bank on his ranger solo.

What tracking/solo content is available for Rangers in WL? The only thing I could think of would be panther pelts, but that probably involves clearing lots of chaff in hopes the good ones will pop.

Also, what are the good cash drops to go for in the FT tracking/mob cycle?

Farm melee wrist gems (and stuff) in velks?

I could just about manage to solo the frenzied velium broodling at 59, even with very late slow procs. I generally had potg on and had to take med/root rot breaks mid fight. I also had sky cloak but no fungi. Swarm caller may help if you can't source a seoc easily.?

haze panthers are more common than people think, respawn is fast. Don't let EC condition your mind in believing otherwise. Prices are all perception.
And there are quite a few cycle items that still yield massive net gains.

You could also slum it in South Karana and sell loot rights to the Peggy cloak. Although I bet TT cycles would be more profitable and less camped (plus no KS from a lvl 35).

I've had pretty poor luck with the Swarmcaller :) The whole point in making money at this point is to source an SEoC :D

Make friends with every non epic Mage on the server and offer to help them in hate in exchange for a chance at SEOC. kill enough minis and you'll see one drop.

I swear the bottleneck 'fix' that was supposed to make SEOC more squid able (moving the drop from Inny to his Minnys actually made the damn thing rarer! I was lucky enough to attend enough hate raids to be (pity?) MQed a stone from the guild.

Get a set of 100% weight reduction bags and go to town in places like Sol B or Permafrost is probably the most realistic option for consistent solo plat.

Rangers are gods in hate, between Bind Sight, Harmony, and other tools. I think if you found a crew to small man it you could farm it yourself easily.

For money, I think the best bet is Pegasus Cloaks, everyone needs one and everyones alt needs one.

I kinda like this suggestion :D My play time is fairly constrained, so setting up at a more difficult (Hate) or prolonged (Quillmane) camp is less feasible. But if I can hop on and grind some vendor trash ore quickly for a bit, that might work.

If you wish to get a detailed explanation how/where to farm on a ranger. Seek one of Tunare's finest rangers! - > Alleriah

It takes 90 mins for a ranger to bow kite an Ice Burrower ;).

I play a Ranger, so I clearly hate myself, but I don't hate myself that much.

Kill mass green con guards for fine steel/shields boring but best plat/hour

Any recommended spots/guards. Preferably ones that wouldn't hose useful factions.

I dont have a ranger but here's my ideas

Peggy cloaks - constant demand ppl nearly every character needs one. While rangers are not the best at Peggy (bard is) they are still really good at it.

WL - haze Panthers. Take advantage of your super tracking

TT - cycle for named + if ppl want to pay you to get their zeb key easy?

Ring 7 mq - again bard is superior but you have harmony so can do escort and ring 6 super easy. Only pita is the Kodiak pelts. Ring 7 ambush may be difficult for ranger to solo not sure how you could pick up so many targets so quickly

Duo - find a to shaman who wants a melee to stand in front of things / maybe duo ice burrowers with druids ( yes they can easily solo them but maybe with added ranger dps will go faster

I leveled in KC, sniped quite a few named there. You won't make massive money but you'll get some. Can harmony the entire zone and track from wherever gives you the best exp.

Highkeep is the best place to farm fine steel

taking mobs for cash in one of the very few zones to consistently get random groups in 50+ isn't the most courteous imo

What I normally find is the ranger sets up solo in the back / upstairs of LCY while it is empty. A group will ignore CC as it sees the normal camp room fully spawned and start walking over the ranger, but imho the ranger should just keep pulling the rooms he was doing as he was there first.

You can definitely solo farm at least a swarmcaller for now; that's what I did (lots of harmony and pulled out from LCY through RCY near the basement entrance) , along with a lupine dagger. The SEoC has been rough lately.. sucks mini timers were nerfed on live and then here.

Oh, I have a Swarmcaller. I was saying that I've had bad luck in using it to fish for slow procs to help with face-tank soloing, not that I've had a hard time acquiring one.

All a Ranger has to do to make plat is run from one side of Norrath to the other and hit track. If there's a money named up, kill it. If it's too hard for a Ranger to kill, call in some friends and kill it. Track is stupid good for farming.
